But we get by, although have had a few errors on food so in resteraunts I look over at what other people are eating and if it looks good I just say I'll have some of that. All adds to the fun. Mind you my latins not bad as its not really a spoken language.

Thanks Rose, with the mention of Latin you have just inspred a little but permanent part of my blog :-)

Last Sunday I got off the KM cable car and walked the 150m of flat before the run down to Plata Rosa, 70km wind, -17°C and snowing lightly. I had to ride the entire run in extremely low visibiity with the naked eye!!!

Now you know why the rest of us carry a backpack with at least a pair pair of goggles and a Buff stashed )
It's all right having a "minimalist" outlook, until the weather changes :(

I normally take both goggles and sunglasses, but forgot the goggles in my rush to get out!!

Actually I have been looking at investing a BlackDiamond backpack. Still undecided, I would probably leave it somewhere.

bandit wrote:Tino, for the all round experience, Zermatt, though looking at the number of lifts open today, you would not want to be there right now :shock:
The lift co. had more open earlier, but the hills seem to have closed!

That will be the wind!!

Had looked at Zermatt but hotels are not looking good. Also I have been three times in the last couple of months. I do agree it will be kicking, but I fancy somewhere a little smaller. Saas Fee was right up there.

bandit wrote:Tino, Catalan was once described to me, as a bit like listening to dogs barking :D The language has a lot more hard edges to the words than Castillian does.

Also they speak about 3 times faster than the Castillians, which is hard to believe and even harder to follow.

If you want a really confusing European language, Catalan is the way to go. They seen to take some elements of French and some of Spanish then make up the rest.

For example.

Please:

French = sil vous plait
Spanish = por favor
Catalan = suis plau

I once found myself talking to a woman in Girona airport, I started in Catalan, quickly slipped into French, realized my mistake and for some reason German took over, panicked and resorted to English, then finished with a flourish in Italain :shock: I don't even know any Italian.

http://www.stantonchalets.co.uk/

offering a catered chalet in St Anton for Christmas week for £369, incl. flights (ex. UK) and transfers. This was down from £799 or something like that

Thats a hell of a deal to be fair. However I must work and flights from the UK are not so useful as I would need to fly there first to get them )

Need to decide on somewhere for Christmas though, any ideas?

Austria, Germany or Switzerland
Train station in resort
3 nights stay
Decent quality hotel
Snow

Who was asking about "On The Piste"?

Trencher wrote:What it does make you appreciate, is how much easier it is to prepare for a first ski trip now (mentally, as well as practically). The only images poor Kevin would have seen before, would have been watching ski racing on the box. You can imagine him trying on that orange speed suit at home, and imagining himself flying done the slopes. The undignified reality must have been a painful revelation, and the irony of that conspicuous speed suit making it much worse. It's easy to see why snowboarding took off.

In these days of you tube, and sites like j2ski, people can have a very accurate idea of what to expect.

Very true, still did not make me feel any less of a pillock my first week snowboarding :oops:
