Had a quick look at a few videos on Youtube. It looks like a right tester alright. As always conditions are everything. Would not fancy it in icy conditions :x

Did not do the Tunnel in ADH. It looks somewhat similar :x

Has anybody done the Black under the gondola in Westendorf. It is not that long and they do groom it but, boy, is it steep  . I think they claim a gradiant of 80 degrees(?) - not sure if this is correct or makes any sense.

Ironically, I would nearly prefer moguls than a sheer slope  If you do fall on a sheer slope, there is absolutely nothing to stop you until you get to the bottom

Don't get too hung up on colour  . The difficulty of a slope owes more to conditions than anything else. In good snow and well groomed pistes, everything is relatively easy  . Conversely, in bad conditions, even a so-called easy blue can be horrible  . Try a busy, icy mogul led blue late in the day and see what I mean  .

If you thinking of doing blacks for the first time, my advice is to ski it early in the day before it is too busy and chopped up. Pick a run that has been groomed and get there by about 11am -I.e. before the crowds get there but after the sun has had the chance to soften it a little bit

Enjoy

Arabba and Dolomites 2013

I was already excited about my trip to Dolomites next week but am even more excited now after reading your great report.

Having read your report and others on here, I have concluded that the Sella Ronda should be treated as a means of getting from area to area rather than a trip in its own right. I'm staying in Moena so a little off the main circuit but with some attractive areas (from what I've read) nearby including Lusia and San Pelligrino areas. Will probably head over to Campitello to access the Selva area. Undecided about whether it is worth trying to get over to th Hidden Valley  . I note you didn't rate it but Gaz has sung it's praises. It is along way from where I will be based so may skip.

Thanks for great report

bald-eagleman wrote:I suppose the positive side is that lots of schools go to the MW at Easter and if the snow was so bad the TO's would not continue to use it as schools get to talk to each other and offer info re conditions etc.

Of course, Easter is usually earlier than in 2014 and the extra couple of weeks can be critical

You seem determined to talk yourself into this option. It might well work out fine but if not, do you really want to answer to a bunch of fed-up teenagers and their parents :x

You need to think high and/or glacier to give yourself the best chance of reasonable conditions. Have a look at this site: http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-Les-Deux-Alpes-020115.en.htm

It might be suitable, though I notice that they closed on 7 april last year

I would seriously question the wisdom of the Milky Way in mid/late April. It can struggle to have good snow at any time during the season  . I am surprised that the resort will even be open that late in the season.

As for the "snow guarantee" forget it - the resort will make sure there is always one or two lifts open thereby ensuring that the insurance is not called even if the skiing is crap

Gaz C wrote: Bit obscure this one. Mrs Gaz went to Serre Chevalier with a friend, while I looked after her children may I add  , and spent the week skiing with a group which included Carl Green (Herman's Hermits). Who? -)

Probably doesn't count as a 'celeb'. Don't think they had 'been invented' when the Hermits were in their heyday. :-)

I'm not sure that skiing had been invented when Herman's Hermits were famous
