Ski school recommendation for Morzine?
Started by User in France, 1 Reply
Afternoon all,
My partner is skiing for the first time in Morzine this season. She's taking lessons at MK and progressing well so looking for group lessons at just beyond complete beginners in resort. Would be grateful if anyone could share recent recommendation from experience. Thanks.

Thought I'd update this - my current insurance covers the dates of the trip but the lad who answered my call (no email contact address) indicated that Skirouten would be covered by insurance 'if the resort considered it safe'

Now emailed them to get that in writing.

All too vague to be honest. Another insurer contacted via email at least went back to their underwriters who considered the run off-piste and therefore requiring a local guide. Not what I wanted to read but at least it's definitive and in writing.

Real pain that there's not one proper piste down to the hamlet really (even a black)

La Tania

We stayed at La Tania one year but used the run down there from the top when staying at Le Praz just down from Courchevel. If I remember correctly the runs are nicely tree lined so lessons would head over there if the exposure was going to be a problem. I'd certainly go back again based on my experience if my regular cohort of ski buddies voted for it.
I've been in the same scenario for years - cant wear Contacts and won't do the laser thing. Finally last year avoided the fogging thing after years of experimentation - i wear a helmet not a hat and use Smith Phenom turbo goggles - they have a small fan that exhausts the moisture and clears the lens of my glasses.

I did have the smallest frames for my prescription specs already amd went to try the non fan Phenom goggles on for size - they're a medium frame but Smith do other fan versions of some of their other models. Not cheap tbh but they work. I got the jack of all trades tint lens which was fine until it was really bright - i've picked up a pair of Red Sol-X lens to cover that eventuality this season.

Biki17 Hope you don't mind me adding a relevant query to your thread.

I'm staying in Zug in the last week of Feb with friends and we need to try and arrange some lessons. Can any of the contributors familiar with the area suggest a school or instructor we can arrange in advance please?

We'd be looking for 5 days for a group of 4-6 with a couple of weeks experience in resort and 2 days for 3-4 more advanced skiiers who've been skiing 10 years or so.

Thanks
Ski Helmets

I've been wearing a helmet for the last few seasons and found after the first that it was easier for me personally to manage the fogging of goggles and body temperature. I wear specs (can't do contacts) and between helmet and Smith Phenom turbo goggles I no longer have frustrating periods of no vision to deal with.

iirc 3/4 of our group were sporting them on the slope last year - and it was those that had been skiing longest of us that opted not to.

The Giro effort I had was annoying though - it was a good fit but being one of those foam packed efforts it looked huge and the material of the flexible ear covers annoyed my ears. Possibly it was a good fit around temples as required but I hadn't considered the lower half of the helmet.

We had a day of very junior level slalom racing at the end of the weeks lessons and I crashed in such a way that I tried to plough a furrow into the slope and there's an interesting depression in the outer shell of the helmet. So I've just replaced it - and got a full sided Uvex race style helmet. Not because I fancy myself for Olympic gold but because the full shell feels less irritating on my ears. Another bonus is it's a little more streamline. Time will tell on the ventilation and effect on hearin gfront though.....

We're booked into a different chalet though have registered that one for next time - didn't quite get the number of people this year for various reasons and we like to book out whatever chalet we're in so Alpenland would have been too big this trip.

Bought some new ski pants, goggles on the shopping list. March seems ages away now :-(
