Thanks for all the contributions so far.
I'm looking forward to the trip - looks really good. So I'm now thinking I just need to make sure of my insurers coverage of 'Skirouten'. Don#t fancy buying an avalanche pack tbh just because I don't like carting stuff about on the slopes - but I'd rather ski home than have to wait for a bus  |

Clariana,
We took a succession of beginners (albeit adults) over the course of 4 seasons to Le Praz, just a bubble down from Courchevel where most of us learnt from scratch. Lots of green runs there as I recall, easily reached magic carpet and a mix of tree line and open runs and always had good snow. Not been for a few years now - was pricey for lunch at 1650 but staying in Le Praz was no worse than other French resorts. |

Hi all,
Paid my deposit for my regular ski crew's annual ski trip and 2013 we're off to Zug, near Lechs. Noticed that it's ski out/ski in advertised but the red and black runs back are dotted lines on the piste map indicating, I believe, that the runs are not pisted and patrolled but yet still recognised as runs back to resort. There are buses back to the hamlet but I'm comfortable skiing the red back (black is apparently interesting) Some of the group may not be as comfortable if they thought it was technically off-piste. I'm a little confused as to where that leaves us insurance wise - and not keen to just accept the travel agents assessment which is it's fine with regular cover :). Seems to be not quite off-piste but I assume I'll need to get cover for that just in case? And then have to buy extra kit to carry? Can anyone here put me right please? Cheers :D |

Hello all,
Whilst hunting for short salopettes a post on another forum led me here. http://www.cioch-direct.co.uk/waterproofs/salopettes.html Has anyone here used this service or used similar material before in their ski gear? It looks like the Highland mountain rescue types like it but I guess the conditions in terms of moisture will differ from the top on the French Alps? Like the idea of some pants that fit for a change and they're cheaper than the Arc'teryx Theta SV short cut that I've been looking to try on... Cheers |

I've had a look at the sales in central London and at the Hemel Snow and Rock yesterday - good prices and interesting stock but not for midgets like me
Going to have to wait for end of September for new stock in store so I can try to find small short salopettes. Quite fancy something not too baggy but guess that means expensive thinner material for the warmth (Arcteryx or Spyder?) The Obermeyer stuff in the US looks like it's the right inseam length but no UK stockists.... Picked up one of last years Dakine Heli bag things as I tired of having stuff in my pockets. Has anyone tried using a camelbak hydration pouch in the Alps and found that it freezes on them? New CEM-fitted boots got a trial run yesterday. My toes and arches survived intact and pain free- Very happy as a result. |

My group have just booked out a newly built chalet in Alpe d'Huez for 1st week in March. Sounds rather plush with its own hot tub and sauna.
Thankfully I got to test my new CEM-fitted boots in Hemel yesterday and they worked a treat. My technique is very very bad with two years gone since I last saw a ski slope so could be an interesting first few days but at least they'll not be ibuprofen fuelled. |

Hi Bandit,
Appears the tiny volume of my feet and skiing needs are a good match for the Atomic RT CS100 race boot - when CEM measured me up a couple of years back it was too late in the season to find a 23/23.5.... then the credit crunch hit but I'm hitting the slopes again this season. Big white and red boots were too subtle so we've tweaked them with some Union Jack buckles :D Missed the beer and pies offer though... (it was 9am) Had lots of problems in the past with boots - invariably smashing toes - and I know now that I've been wearing 'buckets' for the most part. The new luggage item is http://www.solutions4feet.com/catalogue_item.php?catID=2365&prodID=12364 Which is a Head badged one of these http://hotgearbag.com/index.shtml Hate putting cold boots on in the morning..... :) |

Hi all - my first post here and this seems to be the most appropriate thread as my shopping has begun already.
Just got my new boots from CEM due mainly to the rave reviews I'd seen here.(after years of pain and profit for ibuprofen producers) Bought early as my small feet best fitted race boots at a bloke's size that I guess is made in low numbers. (Left it too late two years ago and couldnt get any). They're getting their first run at Hemel in a couple of weeks time to see if the tightness in the ankle needs another look. Got myself a great deal on a Head hotgearbag. Just need to pick up some short-*$^* salopettes when stock for new season appears online. Expecting to have to buy from US though.... |
