Ise,
My optician said he thought either the transitions or the prescription sunglasses would be fine for normal ski-ing, but not for glacial ski-ing (I told him I'd been on the glacier at Tignes for 3 days). He says you need even darker (or whatever the technical term is) glasses for that. But my eyes seem to be fine now, anyway, after ski-ing in full sunlight on the glacier. I tend to wear my transition glasses if I can, because they are vari-focal as well. I have been short-sighted since I was about 15, and the last couple of years I've started to go long-sighted as well, with age. So I need my vari-focal transition glasses to read the piste-map (otherwise I have to take my prescription sunglasses off). And, of course, when it's snowing I have to wear my goggles over my transitions. Getting old is very complicated! I am waiting for the day when I have to ski complete with walking stick, glasses, and hearing aid  I never give anyone a star rating. I don't feel like I'm qualified to do so. I was a trained NVQ assessor once, but I went on a course then, and I knew what I was doing, so it was okay. Ally |

Tony, I don't get it. Why does one star appear sometimes? And in fact I think I've seen 5 stars appear once. I don't normally see any stars at all. |

What a lovely photo Eggman! But it is rather frightening. It looks a bit like something out of Lord of the Rings.
As regards the 'oops' - Pablo told me to click 'preview' before I 'submit' photos etc. so that I don't litter the forum with umpteen of my failed attempts :D . Well done for getting it to work. Ally |

I phoned my optician, and he said both my reactolite (actually I think they're called transitions) and my sunglasses are both uv 400. But he also said my vari-focal transitions only block out 80% of the visible light at maximum, and the sunglasses only block out 85% of visible light.
Plus, my sunglasses are wrap around, but my transitions are like ordinary glasses. Ally |

You look amazing Trencher :D. I wish I could ski like that. You must be incredibly fit.

Well, that's the plan anyway, Snowbandit. I have managed to do two lots of lessons for the last couple of years, and get back to the apartment for lunch, but I haven't tried slalom before. If it's too exhausting/difficult for me I will switch back to ski pleasure during the morning. I'm not that fit yet, but I'm working on it :D Ally |

Thanks for that Ise, :D and nice to see you back. I had no idea that sunglasses for ski-ing blocked out so much of the visible light. It's amazing we can all see where we're going when we're wearing them! I generally wear my ordinary reactolite prescription glasses, but I also have prescription dark glasses for ski-ing. I have no idea if they block out enough light to prevent me getting eye damage. Maybe I should check with my optician. I just assumed they'd be okay because I told him I was going to use them for ski-ing. Ally |

Thanks Dorset Boy, that was kind of what I thought.
I suppose I have the option to upgrade the whole pass for the week if esf tell me something different when we get there. Ally |
