Top moment of the season for the team... a glitch in the GFS data causing us to predict a 3 metre snowfall (in one day) across the Alps early in the season...

But on the +ve side... having to go flat-out to keep up with my 10-year-old son on a steep red, shortly after pursuading him that he could handle it... 8)

Spinning in the dome? Cool or what? Is it on youtube yet? 8)
GFS is looking interesting for the end of this month and into March... nothing to bet your ranch on (yet) but the famous wiggly lines are getting busy, with precipitation, from around the 25th with a down-trend to the temperatures starting a few days later...

GFS Ensemble plots for Geneva

The temperatures (in the models) have been all over the place but seem to be coming together a little. We just need this High Pressure system to sling its hook; plenty of life left in the season yet methinks.

The Snow God is bound to get bored of lazing on a beach soon...
Sunny weather will again predominate over the European Alps this week as the resident High Pressure refuses to move on. Although there will be several days of chillier weather over the coming weekend, for most areas, the zero line will generally remain between 1,500 and 2,000 metres.

Clear skies will be the norm and, though no significant snow is likely within the next week, the resultant cold nights will help to cool and preserve what is still a generally good base. Mid to upper slopes will continue to give good skiing on Spring snow.

There is a small chance of limited precipitation in the forecast for late next week, but we expect that to change...

j2ski Snow Forecasts now updated more frequently

Due to popular request... the j2ski Snow Forecasts now update approximately every six hours, to ensure that the very latest forecast data is available to you. Check the next expected update time alongside the snowfall graph on each forecast page, to see when the next update is due.

Please remember that alpine forecasts more than 48 hours ahead are extremely variable and can change dramatically from one forecast to the next, particularly in the presence of complex weather systems.

So get out there and get on it... 8)
Book of condolence good idea or not ?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 2 Replies
Thank you, everyone, for the many PMs I've had regarding this - all of them thoughtful and considered.

The overwhelming majority feel, as I do, that the privacy and feelings of the grieving should be uppermost in our minds.

Grief and loss is an immensely personal thing and whilst some may find comfort from a public "book of condolence", there are others who may find it extremely distressing.

With that in mind, we are not going to take this further at this time.

Indeed. The pain of those left behind must be unimaginable.

Let's respect that.

Great photos... love your pink ear warmers Mr ellistine - who's the guy standing the other side of her? 8)

From the TV she didn't seem to lack commitment - burn the skis!

Did you get to ski the course afterwards?

Quite a few years ago a mate and I skiied the women's downhill course at Avoriaz, the day after the race... it was just a sloping ice rink, unbelievable. We got to one point where the (Black) piste snaked right then left just below a huge bump that seemed to overhang what looked to us like a cliff. Took us a minute to realise that was where they simply "took air" to plunge down into the valley. Serious respect.

Result! That's really good to hear that she has her feet on the ground...

Pictures? Got any pictures?

Don't suppose you mentioned j2ski to her... ? 8)
