Unfortunately we already have a caron registered... I could change it to heineken if you'd prefer a more European flavour?

Minor request folks; please try not to quote the entirety of any Post you reply to - it makes the forum look a little untidy... 8)
Hi Jason... looks as if GFS (the source of most of our data) is having a hard time coping with the boundaries of the weather systems expected in the next week. I'd expect things to even out a little with the next update, but it's looking like the milder air will be with us until about the 3rd or 4th when it should get cooler...

I'm becoming a little concerned by some of the regulars round these parts... from a quick reading...

Adele apparently wants video of the male regulars in the snow with their tackle on display... ...are you sure you're on the right website?

As for funding... there's a 2 Euro piece and a paper-clip on my desk - will that do?

Oh wait, there's more...

I cut up the two brace sections and had video type universal clips installed with pop rivets! I now have cam on my thigh

So Pav is now roaming the mountain with a camera riveted to his thigh! I bet that stung! The dedication of this man to his sport is incredible.

Adele - I think we found the camera-man...

Come on lazy snow god helps us out !!!!!!!!!

Steady as she goes... GFS this morning still showing falling temperatures and a lot of precipitation for the first week of March... 8)
The present clear weather is set to continue through the coming weekend, with temperatures likely to peak on Saturday and take the freezing level to around 3,000 metres just about everywhere. Sun cream and t-shirts?

A good number of ski areas should see snow early in the week, however, with cooler weather taking the zero line swiftly back to 2,000 metres on Monday and snow possible down to around 1,500 metres in places.

Beyond the next week, temperatures look set to fall - and there is increasing likelihood of precipitation in the first week of March; possibly significant quantities, so we'll be watching the weather systems and forecasts closely over the next few days.

j2ski Snow Forecasts update every 6 hours

Just a quick reminder that the very latest forecast data is always available to you on j2ski.

Do remember that alpine forecasts more than 48 hours ahead are extremely variable and can change dramatically from one forecast to the next, particularly in the presence of complex weather systems.

That is all (for now),

No, unfortunately there is no guarantee that the current forecasts are accurate... beyond 48 hours the only thing that the model-based forecasts (including ours) can give you is the general outlook.

That said, when the models start to strongly agree (from run to run, and model to model) then the confidence goes up.

Looking at the forecasts right now... it looks pretty likely that there will be some snow in the middle of next week. Into the beginning of March, the models are looking good for several bands of snow crossing the Alps - but exactly when and exactly how much (snow) is impossible to predict at this stage.

The thing to watch is the direction that the current weather system takes when it starts to move or (hopefully) is pushed out by a cold front from the East. If it doesn't move much, we could get some serious snow... if it goes East we may not get much of anything... if it goes West... it's gonna rain.

Fingers crossed... 8)
Best moment of the season (so far!)

Our embarassment was tempered, just a little, by the number of people who believed it...
Hmmm, ok everyone... DON'T LOOK AT THE FORECAST!

The wiggly lines are getting a right wobble on, (DO NOT) check the Geneva GFS ensemble from the 25th onward...

If you were to look (which you're not) you'd see a succession of some fairly big lumps of precipitation going right out from the 25th through the first week of March. Temperature is falling too... possibly useful amounts of snow down to 1500m next week but maybe a bit soggy below 2000m.

Let's see what this afternoon's update brings... but don't look - or it might get shy and go away...
