Getting fit for skiing
Started by NellyPS in Ski Fitness, 510 Replies, discussing Tignes and Val Thorens
We are now snowed in so I have been getting plenty of exercise walking to the shop and back (2 miles each way) plus this morning I have been pushing a car stuck on one of our hills. Yesterday I walked a total of 6 miles through the snow in my wellies. It's surprising how tiring it is walking through snow.

But I haven't been able to go out running because of the snow.

I mean i had a nice time in Bulgaria met some lovely skiing friends and the skiing was ok.

But i did get spike with ketamin on the the first night all my money stolen off me and a big medical bill does put me off.

Olly,
That sounds really awful! But I don't get it - why would anyone want to spike your drink? Did they do that so they could get you all doped up before they stole your money, or what?

I hope you are right, but the schools that I have interviews at, on Tues/Weds/Thurs are closed today because of snow and about 160 miles from me...That's going to be a fabulous drive on Monday evening after a weekend of more snow and my return flight from Grenoble (if it happens)...Sorry rant over!

On a brighter note...Oh sorry there isn't one.

Snowbandit, that's terrible about the tortoise eggs. Sorry everyone, but I think that's worse than your flight being cancelled. If the weather stays like this, I would think there's a good chance of both the interviews being postponed - which would probably be a good thing in your case. It's about time you had some good luck.

Here's sending you some good luck :D

Snowbandit,
How about trying to get another flight? For example, is the Easyjet flight from Stansted to Lyon still on for tomorrow?

Really? When I was young bonking was something quite different, although people did do it occasionally in the park - but not usually wearing a helmet

That's a very cheap holiday, if you ask me. Well done :D :D,

Having an affair?

Strangely enough, that was exactly what I thought! I assumed they were high profile people who couldn't afford the scandal, and disappeared before anyone could get their names or realise who they were. We must both have very suspicious minds :D

I'm really glad the girl was okay though - that was an awful fall and must have been horribly frightening for her.

Is 65 too old to try skiing?

I suppose it depends how fit and well they are. If they regularly play badminton/tennis/squash/go sailing/do lots of active gardening or whatever then I think it would be okay, but if they usually sit about using the computer/watching telly/reading etc. then I don't think it would be a very good idea.

As you get older your joints generally stiffen up so you're less flexible, your bones break more easily, your brain works slower, you need more tea-breaks etc.

I think it's different if you've skied for years - then I think you can carry on ski-ing into old age - the same as you can carry on walking (hopefully!).

Trencher,
I think your mother is very brave, to try cross country ski-ing for the first time at the age of nearly 70  And I suppose it's not as dangerous as the usual sort of ski-ing, because it's more like walking on skis.
