I think the automatic French translations are pretty amusing, e.g.

Quality of snow Friday: snow falling in windy cold wind, so cardboard in all exposed areas, but a dusty dream but watch.

I can see why they warn you to look at the original French as well

Stewart, I think Ise is just worried that someone might think the avalanche risk was only 2/5 instead of 3/5, which might cause them to take risks they wouldn't otherwise with possibly tragic consequences.

Anyway, I agree with you Stewart, there seems to be plenty of snow around for your holiday, which is looking good. Have fun :D :D

EJ have cancelled some morning flights, but so far ours is not on that list, ignore Mr W and keep your fingers crossed girls!

Will do, Snowbandit, although typing with fingers crossed is a little difficult

I woudn't have thought so. Our society is generally still pretty homo-sensitive, if not actually homo-phobic at times, and I wouldn't think the press would have described them as a couple unless they were male and female or they had some evidence to back up the assumption that they were a gay couple.

With my holidaymakers I have reached the point now where I never attempt to label their relationships at all - I am very careful to avoid doing so - because these days one just never knows and it is very easy to cause offence. If my husband asks who we've got I just say how many adults/kids/males/females we have and leave it at that.

The Ski Helmet Debate

Well,
I think it's very impressive that so far everyone has managed to discuss this issue in a pleasant, constructive manner, whilst still respecting the views of others - so that Admin hasn't had to lock this thread :D.

My congratulations to all contributors so far

If there isn't a safety device like this, I'm not sure I'm going in another cable car after reading this account

Ally, I'm sure you would be absolutely fine if you were wearing a helmet

Thanks Far Queue, that's just given me a really, really good idea
I could bring a parachute :D

Snowbandit,
I hope you get your flight okay :D :D :D

How are you getting to the aiport? I hope you don't live too far away, or are you going to stay in an airport hotel?

Getting fit for skiing

Nelly,
I am walking very carefully as well, in case I fall over and hurt myself. I fell once today, but I'm okay, and my daughter fell heavily on her hand but luckily she seems to be okay as well. I would imagine the casualty department in our local hospital is full of people with minor injuries and breaks.

Snowbandit,
I hope you do get away okay (and stop sulking!). I rather think sulking is bad for your health

I am worried myself now, because my daughter has AS exams next week starting on Monday, and we're snowed in at the moment and they are predicting heavy snow for Sunday. My contingency plan is for her to walk to town (5 miles if she doesn't get a lift for part of the way) and then stay overnight with friends, assuming the school manages to re-open in time to do the invigilating and that they get the exam papers in the post.
