I just have visions of someone driving down motorway the wrong way. At some point you must realize that everyone is going in the other direction.

How is your skiing? Conditions look hard so I would be tempted to get first lift and ski in the sun at Flegere or Brevant.
Probably should look to replace mine this year as well. Made a rookie mistake last year and sent mine down the full length of the Croisse Baulet whilst trying to put on ski crampons nr the top. No obvious damage but pretty sure cannot have been good for it. Skiing becomes an expensive business when you need to replace helmet and goggles(never retrieved).

Put it this way I have picked up a serviced pair of skis stored for winter and had snow build up due to presumably dust etc. (they looked clean). Would at least recommend a good run down with some alcohol.

Well you definitely need to wax them which you can do yourself if you have an old iron, straight edge and a brush. After that one professional service a year should be more than enough for 2 weeks skiing.
Is an interesting one that the Alps will also be faced with over the next 20 yrs. Am sure there is no legal obligation for lift companies to set aside money for decommissioning and reforestation. So if global warning is as now forecast will we just be left with a landscape littered by non viable lifts?
Can report Chamonix has great skiing above 2000m. Packed snow with 2cm of wind blown powder on top made for great on and offpiste.

Seems up high on glaciers is looking good if still a little open. High Mountain Guides latest report certainly looks like they found some great snow.

Take a car and ski a different resort each day. Alternatively Courmayeur is a great for lift accessed offpiste both of the Yula and Skyway lifts. Best thing is the Italians don't really do offpiste, so fresh tracks for few days after snow.
