The first and most important question is....Where can you get the best flights to? I always try to get a very early or very late flight time so as to be on the slopes for a half day on the first or last day.give us a couple of airport options and I am sure that I and others here can give you some good ideas.

We can fly from either Gatwick/Southampton/bournemouth but normally gatwick

When are you looking to travel?

Not sure yet,we normal go feb/march before or after English half term.
We normally look at flight prices first and go from there .It was between france and austria this year but Austria looked cheaper at first glance. We've only been sking the past few years The first 3 years we went to Pas de la case and Sestriere last year but i hate going on holiday to the same place twice .but was concidering going back to Italy after the trouble trying to find suitable accomation .Luckily we've got a place 200 meters from the Gaislachkogl gondola each with our own rooms .
Maybe looking a France next year ,if anyone got some suggestions
Mainly reds or blues
Near a ski lift
Not to many drags for the Boarders
A pub or 2 to watch a bit of football
wont break the bank

thanks
We are going to Solden ,Austria next year but had real trouble finding affordable accommodation that would take us for only 5 days and forget a Thursday - tuesday ,had to be sunday onwards .
Is this the same for all Austrian and French resorts???

We've been to Andorra and italy and never come across this problem ,we could start any day and stay any length of time we wanted

Just thinking about 2015 options

Who's all booked up??

Dave Mac wrote:The Oetztal looks great, a tad expensive, but that won't matter. Wasley, when you say you were looking for twin rooms, did you end up with the required number of single rooms? Many going to Austria for the first time do not realise that an "Austrian twin" is virtually a double bed, or rather two adjoining singles, that do not separate.

Basically there are 7 of us each with our own rooms with this arrangement ,3 regular single rooms and 4 double rooms used as singles.
I think you are right 99% of the photos showing the different hotel beds have 2x mattresses 2x quilts/pillows but on a double bed so cant be split.
I like my mates but don't want to spoon with them after a hard days skiing.
I've been to Andorra,Bulgaria and Italy and most of the doubles are 2x single pushed together ,there fore can separate .Surely the Austrians are limiting the market if they only provide double beds or are they just more liberal over there with there sleeping arrangements than us brits??

Just so all you old duffers know ,we've ended up booking Solden 9th - 14th Feb
I nearly gave up on Austria as i contacted at least 30+ hotels/B&B's and they only seem to take Sat-Sat bookings also none of them seem to have twin rooms, doubles only.
At the place i found We've all got our own rooms but there's no reviews on trip-advisor .I found a few German reviews after i booked it and it could be a bit dive??

Do you have an aversion to BA/easyJet or is it just their flight timings...

No i have a aversion to high prices. :D
The dates i was looking at have shot up ,so just looking at alternatives .As we only go for 5 days the BA flight back is midday so wouldnt be able to ski the last day
Easyjet times are ideal apart from the odd return midweek flight leaves late morning only.
The other alternative in Munich ,prices still low and lost more flight times per a day...But that narrows down are resorts or double/trebles the transfer times

Ill check out Austrian

thanks
