Thanks Gooseh,
You wouldn't happend to remember where it was would you? Was it somwhere near the red run that goes down to the road? It must have been almost impossible carrying a 7 year old up that lift - you must be incredibly fit and strong !

Ally

Looking at the piste map, I think it's the "Sevoliere" lift at the bottom of the black named "Eterlou", which is indeed near a read that seems to go down to a road, though I can't be sure it's the one you're thinking of.

Thankfully said 7 year old was very light, and I had a backpack that kept a hold of my poles. Still, not something I would want to do again.

Les Arcs played host to my second ever week of skiing, and I've returned to the skiing there twice since whilst based in La Plagne. It's an expansive ski area with a wide variety of skiing available, and I would certainly say an excellent place fo begginers and intermediates.

Unless you really cover a lot of mileage, I wouldn't bother paying for the joint Les Arcs-La Plagne pass for the whole week. There's plenty of good skiing within Les Arcs, and if La Plagne is really attractive for some reason or other (better conditions, say) you can always upgrade on the day.

Being 12 last time we stayed, I wasn't in charge of getting the ski passes, but if it's like the majority of french alpine resorts buying it when you're there won't provide any problems. I think (hope) the Euro exchange is only going to improve, so maybe wait and see.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

Hey, that looks like a good few day's skiing! I wish I'd had that a-trip thingy for when my brother and I did the Three Valleys Tour, looks great!

I've just started an exercise regime that I hope to continue with. Yesterday was 35 elevated pressups (varying hand width), 30 crunches, 10 bicycle crunch things, and 25 burpees. I hate burpees. I'll probably add in some static ski-sits when my legs are a bit stronger.

Today was a 5 mile run. I intend to continue alternating the two, with one day rest a week.

I think it's unlikely that I'll keep it up, but one can hope, ay?

bandit wrote:AllyG I have skied La Rosiere a few times over the years, and have been all over the resort (it is quite a small place). I can think of no drag lift that is so bad there.Perhaps conditions were poor with insufficient snow depth?

I do know what it's like to have a broken shoulder. My collarbone was broken by a speeding Dutch woman in VT. It took 16 weeks to knit, (during which time, it just gets left to slide back and fore over the break)and a year to regain the use of the muscles in the shoulder, and another 2 years for the bone collar to be reabsorbed by the body.
It was quite apparent to me, while I was ice climbing last week, that there are still significant proprioception problems with that side. That is despite constant weight training to aid muscle memory.
So, no bingo wings, just lack of control.

How about Bareges in the Pyrenees?
I do indeed, and Engelberg is certainly very tempting, but I'm struggling to find accommodation for the given dates that is within our price range. I'll check out the link you mention :)
