Has a list of what's open and expected.
My personal choice would be Tignes, but I just like skiing there.
And I haven't had one at all ......

Never mind - 'spect Adders has been glued to the webcams and sharpening his skis for the first foray.

Les Deux-Alpes or Trois Vallees?

Your plan of staying in the valley may be attractive.
Brides les Baines has the advantage of a long bubble up to Meribel (40 mins I think) but then has the "catch the last lift back" scenario.
You could drive and park at Courchevel 1300 Le Praz or Meribel. It is a long drive up to Val Thorens, but St Martin de Belleville is the lowest access point in this valley.
In January you could run into weather issues. Lots of snow overnight could make driving up in the morning interesting or impossible and mean you getting very proficient very quickly in using snow chains.
You would also have to factor in car parking charges and availability (don't know what these are).
Depending on what type of accommodation you prefer (catered, hotel, apartment....) there are good value options available up in the mountains.
I wouldn't worry about the getting the last lift back to your valley at the end of the day - gotta be a real numpty or get stuck in a bar on the beer for this to be a real issue.

The correct page for sleeps to ski-ing, skiing and even boarding is ...
http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/14627.page
Where AllyG is again working her magic so you all know when to go on holiday.
Ally needs the date and the resort for the list to work - not the number of sleeps !!
