I'd go for Easter. UK half term is French half term so French resorts will be busy. Also, if you opt for a small French resort you may have problems getting an English-speaking instructor (should you want lessons in English). Italy and Austria less busy at half-term (but I haven't checked when Fasching is in 2016).

Brilliant. Great story. Talk about committed.
My summer alternative to skiing

The reason you are doing 10mph Barney is that you are enjoying yourself too much on your big knobbly tyres while us bikies grind out the miles on the tarmac with our heads down. Reminds me that I must get an MTB.

Good stuff, Tony. 16.4mph on a 2-3 hour run cycling on your own is a good speed if you are just starting out. You will learn to love:
(i) padded shorts for shorter rides;
(ii) bib shorts - if you haven't got any, get a pair - they look ridiculous, but they are sooo comfortable compared to normal shorts, especially on a long ride;
(iii) cycling in France if you ever get the chance - the drivers are wonderful to cyclists;
(iv) clip-in pedals - far better than normal pedals or those daft cage things;
(v) getting on the drops when going down a hill (gives you far more control over the bike, but takes some getting used to);
(vi) sodding off out the house for 5 hours and just cycling wherever you fancy
(vii) eating shed loads of food because you have just burnt off 2500 calories on your ride.

You will learn not to love:
(i) crappy cyclists who give cyclists a bad name;
(ii) rubbish drivers (there are not many of them and some just don't know better, but there are a few idiots);
(iii) potholes (he says taking a wheel to the fixers tomorrow)
(iv) the pack of dogs that the travellers let out of their camp last week - ta v much.

Cycle safely and enjoy.
Transportation from Turin to Risoul

Kennao - that is late. From what I recall, Crystal used to go to Risoul and Vars - may be worth checking when their flights arrive and try chucking the rep a few euros for a transfer. Have you tried Risoul's Tourist Information website?
How Old Is Your Ski Stuff

Boots - only 2 years - need more scuffing up
Helmet and goggles - must be about 4-5 years - helmet a bit scuffed and missing a vent slide after using it as a brake after fall on ski cross course
Salopettes - women's size 16. 3 years old. Bit tatty and a bit big around the bum.
Jacket - Quiksilver. 6-8 years old. £20 in end of season sale. Blinking brilliant.
Thermal leggings and t-shirt - 1980s or 1990s, I think
