I was pulled over by the police in Austria, because I had neglected to clear the snow off the roof of the minibus.

Sorry Tony, that should read a 1000ft drop.

Tony, snowploughs keep the surfaces clear of any depth. They scatter stones on the road in the village, these are collected in gully traps and re-used. Pavements are gritted.

Main roads kept clear. But if there is a dump on when you are driving, it may be a bit slidy.

It's only a 100ft drop over the edge of the road anyway.
The £7 beer. That's France for you! (Sorry Admin Dave )

Looking at the evidence of the way bad financial information has emerged over the past three months, I do not see a quick recovery for the pound. The negative info is incessant. Banks which have supposedly removed all the toxicity from their account, are suddenly finding new levels of debt. We find we have an embedded public sector systemic pension calculation problem, an expensive-to-implement, but inneffective VAT reduction, tax give aways that will have to be paid back. And so much more. With more emerging every day. Compounded by levels of debt we don't want to talk about.

The people who determine what the value of the £ is, are those who have chosen to invest in, or sell, our currency. If you were a large scale holder of sterling bonds, due to mature, would you re-invest in Sterling?

My untrained, but not uneducated opinion is that sterling is headed towards 85/90 cents Euro.

It's being so cheerful that keeps me going.

If I'd thought more carefully I might have asked the question that Trencher has unwittingly answered. I don't really want to teach them to ski, and if that's the impression I gave then sorry to all that took it that way. All I want to do is make sure they all have a good time. They have no intention of trying to be experts by the end of the week. They just want to have a laugh, and learn a bit while they're at it.

None of us will be attempting and extreme terrain, and there will certainly be no sense of competition. My friends just aren't like that. The closest they will get is pushing themselves to learn and progress

Hoop,

I don't think that any of us have misunderstood the predicament, and if you read between the lines, most of us feel a deal of empathy. I half regret contrasting Mayrhofen, but only half, and it wasn't aimed at you as an individual, but at problem issues seen on a regular basis.

Many of us have been involved in the development of other people's skiing, with children or friends. I guess it is the scale of having 5 people to deal with. There is no way it can not look like a class.

That is not the same as having a few runs down the beginners slope with a mate. This happens all the time. So, I guess you could do a bit of this, without fall out.

The more I think about Ise's suggestion that you book a lesson or two for yourself, the more it might seem to work on several levels. You would be sending a clear message about your own commitment to improving your ski technique. You would be putting clear water between your commitment and theirs.

It's a tough position, and I wish you luck.

At the same why not book yourself a private lesson? Makes the point nicely that a) you need to do your own thing and b) you're not an instructor.

Neat solution.
Westendorf to Kitzbuhel?? On skis??

Para,
The new Ki West lift appears to link up the Gampenkogel ~Pengelstein, and on into the Kitz area. It is a lot easier just to go to Kirchberg, and ski over to Kitz from there.

I hope this doesn't mean you are forsaking your Niederau days?
