One wall in the kitchen is full of Niederau scenes:

The Gephof, Niederau

Conservatory walls have a few portraits, both oils and pencil, plus landscapes carried out in New Zealand, Austria, Wales.

My studio room, portraits of Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dillon, plus 50 to a 100 landscapes, mostly watercolour, leaning against the wall.

Living room, some water colours I did in New Zealand, and some originals by different folk.

And an original Turner water colour

Karen,

I hired for friends last week, using Skiset. As you know in Niederau, Skiset use Margreiter. I did check up on direct hire prices, and skiset were a clear better deal. Both were better cost than Blachfelder.

Although this was New Year week, and the shop was very busy, our friends received good service. We booked Bronze skis, and they were fine. The bootfitting was good.

I doubt that you will arrive early enough to get skis on the Saturday. Better to get checked in have a good meal and drinks, enjoy the evening. Get down to the hire shop as early as you can, and you will be fresh.

The Gondola starts at 9.00am, Ski school at 10.00am.

Ski Racing is definitely not dull....

Apologies, I am thread-stealing because another thread got locked out, before I could answer it.

Trencher asked the question ~ "What is the fundamental flaw in hip counter ?"

I was really sorry to read the inconsiderate and rude replies to this. It just isn't necessary.

Right, back to the question. For me personally, there is an increasing difficulty with using hip counter, because age hits me two fold, the muscle strength required to effect the required body spring tension, and also the mobility issue.

But you are asking for the fundamental flaw, not a personal constraint. I had to think this right through the manouvre. The only issue I could think is that when you carry out the hip counter, if it is too dynamic, or on too steep a slope, or on unstable snow, or a combination of these.....

You might start an avalanche.

That may not be what you had in mind Trencher, but it's my conclusion. If it is not what you had in mind then I would be pleased to know what you think.

Enter Princess Tony. "Hello fans", (bows), "How are you all?"

"Terrible", cried PT's Fans, "There's a credit crunch, the Euros at an all time low, Baron Ryanair is sh...ing all over us, and King Gordon doesn't really care, cos he goes to Skegness for his jollies, and there's no Gondola there."

"Never mind", said the gracious Princess, "Where are we all going skiing?"

"NIEDERAU!" cry the fans.

"Oh No your'e not"
"Oh yes we are"
"Oh NO your'e not"
"Oh YES we are"

"Well, what about Mary Hofen?" cries Princess Tony. (Appearing distressed)

"Who's she", cried the crowd.(for by now some of the fans had changed to pure crowd, mostly because they had been infiltrated by the Brothers GRIMentz)

"No, I mean Mayrhofen" said PT. (blushes)

Enter the Wicked Wickham.

"OK, this Mary Hofen, erm I mean Mayrhofen" says the WW. "Can you ski down to the village?"

"Errm, no. Well, maybe sometimes, if there is a 12 ft fall of snow at the top, and the wind blows some downwards. I mean, be reasonable, the village is 200 metres below sea level."

"NIEDERAU" scream the crowd.
"NIEDERAU" shouts the Wicked Wickham.
"Niederau" whimper the few remaining fans.

Enter the Emporer Pavel. (Yes for it is he, having flown all the way from......sorry, my lips are sealed.)

"Fellow J2Ski citizens", cries the Emperor. (looks regal)
"Hail Emperor Pavel"
"Is there a problem?" asks EP
"Tony wants to go to Mary Hofen", cries the crowd, as one. (for it is past midnight, and there is only one J2Skier left)
"Princess Tony?" frowns the Emporer.
"Well your Majesty, I only wanted to be loyal to Mary." (Looks crestfallen) "Oh, and Niederau is such a low resort, your Majesty"

Enter the court Dimplomat, Dave Mac.

"Diplomat Dave" says EP, "What have you to say?"
"Your Pavelness, I really appreciate Princess Tony's loyalty towards Mary Hofen, but it's time to move on. Niederau has north facing slopes, the runs are in the trees, and it is such a nice place."
"What have you to say for yourself now, Princess Tony?" queries Emporer Pav
"Well", sqeaks the Princess, "I have been offered a great deal by the Duke of Auhof. Why, yes, I shall go to Niederau!"

"Hurrah", cried the fans. (For now the Princess is back in favour with the multitude of Niederauers.

And the Princess went to Niederau, skiied with Diplomat Dave, sank a good few biers, and listened to the court harpist.

And we all lived happily ever after.

Can I have my five pounds now please Dave?

Merry Christmas to you all

You are spot on Admin Dave. In fact, I am taking skis just in one direction next week, so only had to pay £16.50.

Of course, I don't like my skis to be lonely on that long journey, so have included some "stiffening" behind each ski. I admit that the "stiffening" does resemble a pair of skis, but that the way it has to be shaped. Total weight of skis and "stiffeners" is 8.5kgm. Might need to put a pair of salos around them as protection.

And I will have a spare set of bindings in main baggage.

Each hotel, including the Alpenhof, have a weekly newsheet in reception, detailing events.

You can pick up some advance information from: http://www.wildschoenau.com/home/winter/en/default.aspx

There are sometimes big and interesting events.

On December 30th there is a night time ski touring race from the village to the top of the Marbachjoch and down. That's for the amateurs. The professionals have to do it twice! Step up Ise and Bandit!

On 16 Jan there is a Synchronic skiing world cup event. This is a great display of skilled skiing.

In the following week there will be Training for some of the Hahnemkahn teams.
