With respect I don't intend to have it blaring out, to be honest I usually only use it in lifts when I am bored.

Plus, I don't understand how in forums in general a question is asked then a smart non relevant comment is made.

Sorry it is a bug bear of mine. As I am sure people on the snow who are deaf is one of yours?!

I have just bought a Red Tracer helmet. It is compatible with the REDphones that go in the ear pads. Anyone here used them? Any good?
Car Hire - cost of Snow Tires

Wanderer wrote:I have booked a hire car from Munich airport for next week. However, after I had made the booking, I noticed that they would be looking for an extra €50 for snow tyres (needless to say this was not highlighted on the booking page).

This is obviously a complete rip-off and clearly, I should have done more research before making the booking.

I understand that it is a legal requirement for all cars in Germany to have winter tyres on at this time of of the year. Can anybody confirm?

If so, surely the car hire companies would be legally bound to supply cars fitted with winter tyres, regardless of whether these are requested or not. Does anybody know whether this is the case?

Would it be safe to assume that the hire cars will have winter tyres fitted at this time of the year?

I have always found (in france to be fair) that the hire car comes with Snow Tyres when hiring in ski season....but who knows!

AVORIAZ - FIRST TIMER!! - Please help!!

Hi

I go to Morzine quite a lot and consequently ski (not board) in Avoriaz and the surrounding Portes du Soliel (sp?)

The last few times I have been there Sat - Tues so like you have wanted to cram in as much as possible. For me I am glad that I had a pass for the whole area. It is all really well linked and takes no time to get from Avoriaz - Morzine - Les Gets. A great tour. Depends what you want I suppose, if as a border you want to bum about for a few days Avoriaz might be your answer, however if you are like me and want to get the lift at 9am and tour about loads have lunch and finish at 4.30pm I would reccommend the whole area.

Skiing into switzerland is a great run and has a great restaurant at the bottom. Cant recall there being many good eateries in Avoriaz, but that is probably becasue staying in Morzine we are never there at food time. However, there is a bar opposite the top of the cable car that is pretty chilled and serves excellent beer/food/crepes

In short - get the whole area.....

I am off there on Saturday......3 days and counting
Best ski insurance - who to use???

jonG wrote:Hi,

In the past i have used Columbus for ski insurance and found them excellent, although i am now with Direct Line for my yearly travel insurance and have not used Columbus for several years.

Again when choosing insurance the small print is the important stuff not whats written in bold lettering on the policy, when conatcting an insurer just ask them plenty of questions about the policy (record the conversation if possible....you must ask for their consent to do so though first) then they cant wriggle out of anything in the event of a discrepency.

All the best

jon.

I have nothing but praise for Columbus insurance. a few years ago I had an unfortunate accident while on holiday (not skiing). They paid out promptly (£10k!) and were most helpful during the very distressing time.

I have just booked my insurance with them for this year - covered 2 existing medical conditions for silver policy £46 where Tesco quoted £100!!!

Do it!!!
