We stayed in Ballater during the summer. It was on our way to Ballater that we drove through Glenshee and noticed the positions of the lifts, the gates on the roads and the lack of accommodation anywhere near the lifts !!!

bummer - that means it drops down the list of places to ski unless you live locally because if I go for a week's skiing and have weather that means the roads need clearing (which means it snowed - which normally means huge cheering!!) I will miss ski time :(

just come back from driving up to Ballater in Scotland, and drove through Glenshee - my question is how do you get to the ski lifts in the season - there is no accommodation anywhere near and there are barriers which are presumably to close the road off either side of the main lift area on the road when there is a lot of snow?

Scotland is somewhere I would love to go and ski, but not sure of the logistics in Glenshee - and are we just not as organised as the European/Canadian/USA resorts?

like to hear from those of you who have skied Glenshee

thanks

checking web cams in Champery and Chamonix - both appear to have reasonable snow happenings - woohoo
Just returned (Saturday) from a week in Champery - although they have had little snow, the pistes were in quite good condition (no off-piste skiing) and they did close the Swiss Wall on a couple of days (didn't stop idiots attempting to get down it though!)

Skied over to Avoriaz a couple of days - better snow conditions, I believe because the French use the snow canons more than the Swiss do.

But I would say, don't be too put off by the lack of snow - we had a fabulous week.
All Day Pass at Hemel Hempsted

the all day pass that was being offered at Hemel indoor slope during January has been extended for February (excluding half term).
Still at a very reasonable £29 for 0900 - 1700.
Web Cams show snow

web cams for Champery appear to show snowing at last - may it please continue until Saturday, then, assuming there is enough, it may stop and top up every night for the following week!!! :D
