i injured my knee indoors on snow slope, then completely wrecked my knee with an ACL on the mountain in Switzerland - I did 6 months physio, then the specialist decided I still needed surgery so had ACL reconstruction - I wear these braces when I ski - and apart from any physical support they provide, they do provide mental support and give me the confidence to "use" my knee. They are also pretty comfortable to wear all day.

I had heard it say that boarding was less dangerous to knees - but having said that I did my ACL skiing and my eldest daughter did her ACL boarding - although she is a more "radical" boarder than I am skier!! I bought her a helmet and back brace for boarding so maybe the only bit left to do damage to was her knee!!
I have had the operation for reconstruction of my ACL and just returned from my first weeks skiing post-op - and can still walk - hooray! She is probably going to have to have hers done at the end of this season - she refuses to have it done if there is a chance she will miss snow - she lives in Switzerland ! |
