Åre in Sweden in mid-February

Maybe a more continental climate away from the coast helps, although shadows look pretty long. However the fact that people are going back tells a story itself and that is one of the great things about skiing, everyone is looking to experience something different. Personally the Scandinavian (see how I tar all with same brush which itself is a nonsense) resorts, weather and food (waffles aside) lack the same appeal as Europe. Late season ski touring however looks an amazing experience. Look forward to reading a report on the blast am sure you will have.

My opinion Trondheim sort of latitude, mid Feb is a month early. Lived in Norway for 3 years and is a bleak, dark, cold country between Oct and March, if you venture that far north. For sure will be quiet as not even the Norwegians and Swedes will be venturing out.

Seems a pretty logical amount of gear. Radio is an interesting one, as we all take phone coverage as a given these days which is obviously not the case. Am sure is not cheap though.

Northern Alps got way more than expected overnight, looks like >10cm at 1000m so must be pretty big up high. Super cold fluffy stuff as well, can't even make a snowball out of it.

Now this is a style of mogul skiing to aspire to. Not full zipper but just awesome.

Just read all the posts again. Am not sure I fully agree with skidding being bad in skiing. Unless you are 100% carving a turn there is inherently a skid element to it, be it on a gentle piste, mogul field, couloir or a surfy turn on an Alaskan spine. Surely what is important to have a feel for the pressure on your edges so you control the amount of skid. No way to 100% carve on anything above about 30deg without threatening land speed record.
Hi Golodor, am also in town so PM me.

Unfortunately have plans for Thursday am, although weather looks perfect. I would recommend you contact High Mountain Guides. They might even start a group for that day to bring down cost if you commit to it. If is in PM will come along.

Big snow forecast on Saturday so a steeper variant on Monday would also be a good option.

They do have a certain appeal though. Anyone over 30 cannot forget those videos of Glen Plake going mad in moguls, calm upper body and legs going like a set of pistons. Still the terrain that makes me an incomplete skier, as they expose all your technique flaws.
