Two Skiers Killed in Head on Collision

'Although slope was flat you can reach 100 km/hr, something going on with report there?

I actually think flat pistes can be dangerous as energy is not dissipated during a fall. Had a friend get off lift once and just tilted over and fell like a stone onto side of head. She was fine and got straight up the sound and mechanics of fall were horrible. At least with a decent slope the energy is spread / dissipated out over a big distance; does not help if you ski into a tree or a rock.

All things equal helmet is the way to go.
If she wins at the World Champs will be difficult to argue against here being considered best of all time. Also seems a genuinely nice person which is not a given when you clearly have to be so competitive and driven.
places to ski

Draw a circle 1 1/2 hrs from Geneva and pick a resort. Flaine / PDS / Clusaz / St Gervais / Megeve. Basically any of those will fit the bill. Cheap flights to Geneva and <30 Euro each way transfer. Accommodation costs as you wish. For skiing you have to question if you need more than a comfortable bed and a hot shower which many 2 and 3* hotels tick, Air B & B also worth a look at.
Is the Hahnenhahm too dangerous?

Not much you can do when light is that flat, race should never have started. Still that would not of looked good for Austrian skiing which again seems to be having a very dry winter, which had not made for very pleasant course conditions.

Great conditions on piste in N Alps. Piste conditions are as good as it gets and there is literally nobody about. Don't let the sun fool you, has been super cold in mornings so make sure you are wrapping up. The cold weather does however means that even skiing tracked powder is still great even with skinny skis.
Weekend sking in Italy

Most ski schools will allow you to book lessons for only a few days, especially over weekends.
As for the location, have only been to Cervinia, but is Italy so assume everything is small and cosy.
Cross country is easy and fun to pick up (less so any slight downhill). If you are into running alone then this could be your sport, just zone out and exhaust yourself.

Personally I think the key to the enjoyment of this one is going to be lessons. If you only skied once before 25 years ago then you are basically starting from scratch. Decide on a location and get some booked up would be my advice.
Lol don't worry am looking out the window at it, work to do am afraid.
