The only place I fell over in a week was on the 'corridor' to the Gaislachkogl lift (brilliant lift, by the way) which was really frustrating, having skied a fantastic run from the very top of the Rettenbach glacier. It's a horrible, confined, end to a fantastic mountain!

Be interested to read how you get on and what you think of the place; Engelberg remains one of my options for a sneaky trip at the end of the season!

Nice write up, Ally, sounds like a good place to go.
But...it's a railway station not a train station!!!!!! |

It's very modern but quite 'old school' as well; long, thin skis, knees clamped together, hot dogging moves from the 1970s. Where's Wayne Wong when you need him?

Engelberg is two hours by train (from the airport railway station direct to Lucerne, then change for the ZBB service to Engelberg railway station, which is walking distance from a huge choice of hotels of all price ranges. You can view, select and book through the resort website, www.engelberg.ch, which I've used several times before.

DougR, interesting observations about Obergurgl and very interesting you mention a white out. I thought it was downright dangerous in a white out such was the inadequate and idiosyncratic piste marking. Solden had a lot more terrain and a lot more variety and the rather up-market British clientele gave Obergurgl a cliquey air. Despite my reservations, it's still on my shortlist for April 20!
