I have a pair of Oakley Fives not because they are Oakleys but because they fit me well. They were relatively cheap at £55 about 3 years ago and still going strong despite me having sat on them and the obligatory falling flat on face.

I dont think designer glasses are meant to be 'better', it is just that people prefer the look and feel of them.
