Oh no, please not the fall over!

We all do it, I dont believe you if you say you dont. FALL OVER!!

Now, this might seem a daft question. But what style do you guys use to stand up?

1. Sit back on the back of your skis and use the power in your quads to stand up?
2. When on a decent incline, put your skis parallel across the slope and push yourself up
3. Take your skis off, jump up then pop them back on again
4. Ask someone to hold your hand while they pull you up?

I tend to do 1 and 2. The first can be very hard work! The second is where the problems start (and can lead to 3 if i get really annoyed, but never 4!!)When I do 2, I push myself up, but then off go my skis moving forward with me still pushing up......you can imagine the comedy for others!

How do I stop that from happening? If I put ski slightly facing up hill the tails slip out....another comedy moment! Of course, if this is in deep snow or on a nice steep slope the problem tends not to happen. It is when it is either hard packed or icy or even worse flat as a pancake (crepe)!

Any suggestions?

OK, picture this.

Coming down to the bottom of a nice tasty red that opens up nice and wide to a part with a slight incline. To stop the poling, bend zee kneez and into a lovely tuck position and listen to the wind howling in your ears and the cold nose. But loving every second of it.

I bet we have all had that feeling, I know I have & I absolutely love it.

However......

On the odd occasion (luckily only very odd as it hurts and is embarrassing!!), I catch an inside edge. BANG!! down like a bag of potatoes. Mush flat in the snow and having to walk down teh flat bit (after I have managed to stand up on flat bits. I find standing up VERY difficult, always have. But that is another thread...)

1. Why do I catch the inside front edge?
2. When I try and keep ski flat I then feel unsteady and have no weight and think I will catch outside edge?

Any advice would be much appreciated as I am fed up of looking like a dim wit!

Nope, you simply have to guess by looking at the height of the road on one of those contraptions called a 'map'.

The best thing I found with my TomTomwas when going up the bendy roads up hill it would think that it was a left/right turn. It was constantlly saying, "in 10 metres turn right, in 10 metres turn left......"

Take a shovel!
