Hi,

many moons ago group of friends and myself were staying an the Home Club in Tignes ,and had one hell of a blizzard for about 14 hours, when we got up in the morning as in the photo you could not se the tops of the cars at all.......which was bit of a problem for the plough driver as while driving down the road clearing the snow ,he also cleared two or three cars that were parked with their rear end s hanging out.....oooopppps!

Best ski insurance - who to use???
Started by User in France, 8 Replies
Hi,

In the past i have used Columbus for ski insurance and found them excellent, although i am now with Direct Line for my yearly travel insurance and have not used Columbus for several years.

Again when choosing insurance the small print is the important stuff not whats written in bold lettering on the policy, when conatcting an insurer just ask them plenty of questions about the policy (record the conversation if possible....you must ask for their consent to do so though first) then they cant wriggle out of anything in the event of a discrepency.

All the best

VDI 2 for 1 Lift pass?
Started by User in France, 22 Replies
Hi andy,

Just a thought, have you already paid the lift pass money up front, or do you pay the rep once in resort?, if it is the latter then you should qualify for the discount as you will have purchased the passes during the relevent qualifying period i would think.

Also if in the information it does not say in the small print etc that bookings made prior to the offer being made are exempt from the offer, then they are surely liable and must honour the offer?....maybe someone else on the site with a better understanding of Contract Law could help.

If in doubt as mentioned before go down the Watchdog/National Papers/ABTA route

Best of luck

Hi,

Hope you had a good Christmas, and hoe you have a good New Year,

I have had a poke around on the net and found this transfer company for you, they will transfer you from Val Cenis to Bourg-Saint-Maurice train/bus/coach station from where you can get a transfer up to Tignes with one of the many transfer buses parked outside (you can pre book a ticket with Autocars-Martin ,Satobus Alps etc).

The cost for the transfer from Val Cenis to Bourg-Saint-Maurice is 130euros, heres the details below

Self Catering: is it worth it?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 9 Replies
Hi Steve,

As with some of the other replies I do nothing else now (in all fairness though having brought a small apartment a few years back, there is no need for me to use TO's anymore)...

I suppose in the last 16-18years and around 40-50 ski weeks/holidays in that period i have maybe spent 8- 12 going with a tour operator, one of the main reasons is that the people i started skiing with had skied two or three times before me and had gone self catering to keep down costs.

A couple of To's i have used over the years were Crystal and my favourite Ski Miquel, the thing which appeals to me about S/C is that you deal directly with the people who's property you are using and they are more often than not very flexible about arrival and departure days and times (and not just saturday to saturday) so you can go midweek to midweek if you like to take advantage of the cheaper flights, also you can take earlier flights in the morning so can arrive at your accommadation mid-day and not late afternoon or early evening.

Saying all that though ,there are still some great deals around where you can get a weeks skiing full/half board for under £350- £400 p/p you just have to spend the time looking ( the Daily Mail Ski & SnowBoard Magazine organized trips are great value, but places do get snapped up).On the S/C an apartment for 4-6people can be had for between £300 - £500 for the week, with flights as low as £60 return, and a weeks car hire at the £140 - £190mark + fuel and tolls so four people could have a weeks skiing from around £220ish p/p plus their lift pass and food/drink(which when brought from a good supermarket is good wholesome and quite cheap)

Hi,

On another forum somebody was trying to get to the Tarentaise at an awkward hour of the evening, after leaving them a message with some Taxi company details they sent me a messgae saying thanks for the info but they had managed to find a transfer company eventually called CoolBus.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it on J2Ski before ,or used them before but here is the link.
