Whenever I want to find out about flights from various places, I use this website called flightmapping.com. It's really useful. Here's a link about places you can fly to from Manchester - just scroll down the list you'll see Geneva, Munich, Salzburg to name but a few.

Group lessons didn't work well for us. Daughter (9 now) had bad experience last year, similar to your daughter - got left behind when group was taking the gondola.
This year we had private lessons, just the 3 of us. Instructor was brilliant with us. We had a 2-hour session every day. As daughter progressed a little faster than us, the instructor divided the lesson into 1 hour with daughter alone, while we practised by ourselves, and the second hour with us while daughter stayed with friends. On the last day, husband and I were both ill, so instructor took daughter for the whole 2 hours, all over the mountain on different runs, showed her how to use the chairlift, pointed out local wildlife - basically guided her everywhere. Daughter said it was the best ski trip ever! We'll do the same again next year. Allie |

Hang on - if the skis were bought less than 6 months ago, the warranty is irrelevant. Aren't you covered by your statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act, which states that goods should be fit for purpose? Skis would be expected to last longer than 1 season, surely? Even if you skiied every single day for 6 months - which you haven't anyway. Your first remedy is with the retailer from whom you purchased the skis. They shouldn't be fobbing you off onto the manufacturer, as your contract is with the retailer. Also, thanks to European Regulations, UK law now offers greater protection for consumers against products which develop faults within the first 6 months. I also understand that for damage spotted within the first 6 months, it is for the supplier to prove that the goods conformed with the contract at the point at which they were supplied – and not you to prove that you didn't cause the damage. I'm not a lawyer, but I have picked this information up from extensive research on consumer protection for various family and friends. Maybe you'll find something useful in it. Good luck, Allie |

Silverflora I'm really glad you kept going with the skiing and that you ended up enjoying it. No one knows better than me how hard it is in the beginning. We have had 3 years at it and are still shaky! In our first year we were politely told that perhaps private lessons might suit us better as we were holding the rest of the group back. That was embarrassing  BUT it made us more determined to improve. Some of us are just slower to pick things up. Last year my daughter had a poor instructor who demolished her confidence and nearly put her off skiing forever. So, we always have private lessons now. This year was the best ever.
Glad you did't have to pay for the skis either! Keep us posted with your next trip. Allie |
