I have had a lovely time reminiscing (in my head) and remembering a variety of ski resorts and some amazing (and not so amazing) skiing over the years since this thread appeared.
Those first tentative slides and falls in a couple of small Austrian resorts, which I had just about forgotten, and lots of memories of Verbier, when that resort came up, where I won my spurs so to speak on skis. Verbier was my resort of choice for a while and where I first braved some steep stuff and learnt to ski deep stuff too. Tortin  first serious black, which the instructor took us down once, twice, thrice - until we were comfortable going straight into it rather than traversing until we had to commit to the run. And an amazing number of happy memories of runs completed from Les Arcs; it doesn't suit my skiing needs now, haven't skied Les Arcs since 1990, but fondest of memories. Thanks Crispy - for starting this thread. I must see if I can find any old photos. |

If you get some ideas of resort and go to www.booking.com (NOT bookings.com with an "s") type in your dates and play around with resorts you will find availability for your length of stay.
Just played with Avoriaz and there are several hotels in the area (Morzine, Avoriaz, Chatel) offering four day stays. HINT - once you have chosen contact the hotel directly for availability. My reason is that, although I have used booking.com several times for non-skiing hols. I have heard that their bookings have been known to go wrong in ski resorts, presumably the perenial seven night, sat to sat booking getting in the way. |

My son has been to PT twice with his school and loves it. He progressed from a novice to quite a useful skier there.
What he likes is that he cannot get lost, all runs get back to the resort. He likes the locals, says that ski school and restaurant people are very friendly. Hope this is useful info. |

Tin pot - you are seriously risking a non-skiing holiday with Megeve at Easter.
Snow history for 20th/23rd April in Megeve; 2010 - 4 lifts open(of 83), 50cm snow upper, 0cm snow lower 2009 - 4 lifts open, 110cm upper, 20cm lower 2008 - 6 lifts open, 180cm upper, 30cm lower 2007 - 2 lifts open, 110cm upper, 0cm lower |

I'd think again about Megeve that late in the season - primarily because it looks like the pistes/lifts close on Monday 25th April.
The resort is likely to be beautiful and green, clear of snow and spring like. There is little if any high level skiing (altitude) and hence a probability of few runs both open and with good snow. Look somewhere seriously high for late April skiing. I am going to Tignes 24th April, the glacier will be open and the runs to the resort, but conditions could be anything by then. |

Do a search for short breaks/weekends to find the companies that specialise in that.
Owners Abroad have a few SC apartments that the owners will let for less than a week. In my experience (France) it tends to be the more upmarket hotels that let by the night rather than sat to sat. I'm sure you'll find something suitable, maybe the accomodation will choose the resort for you? |
