Emma, I think that's why Salski gave Ian a B- for his report  I think Tony should have an A* for his :D I have to admit I didn't include any photos either with my Tignes October report because I don't have a decent camera. Tony's are really lovely photos (although I had the same problem with reading the text - I guess other people have very clever browsers that automatically adjust to the size of the picture). Tony, Now you've got a taste for the really good 'posh' resorts you'll have to go to Courchevel - it's great! Ally |

Rustyinn, I didn't see any notices (although I have to admit I'm not very observant). Maybe I am just lucky :D I suppose if they'd refused to allow my ski boots in my hand luggage I would have had to empty my suitcase to make enough room for the boots and put all the stuff I'd taken out in my hand luggage instead. Just as well I got to the airport in plenty of time. It all goes to show how random this is. I know someone who flew into and out of France with an expired passport. But obviously this doesn't mean that none of us need to bother getting a new passport any more. And as for luggage delivery, I had a look at the prices on www.carrymyluggage.com I picked a couple of American states at random, and discovered that they would charge only £78 return from Wisconsin to Virginia for ski boots and skis. Whereas the same from the U.K. to France was £110 plus VAT total £132 for the 'economy' price and £168 plus VAT for the 'priority' price. Ally |

Hi Tony, nice to see you back :D
I think what Thomsons mean is that you have to pay £30 for each pair of skis or each snowboard, and you have to book ahead to be sure of getting your skis/board on the plane. I copied in another bit off the Thomson website (page 1 of this thread near the bottom) which said that their hand luggage limit is only 5 Kg and this includes the weight of a handbag or similar item. I weighed my ski boots and they were exactly 5 Kg but someone else said (couldn't find it on their website) that ski boots are not allowed in hand luggage. The hold luggage limit is 20 Kg but you can pay for the extra 3 Kg to get up to the maximum weight of 23 Kg per item with only 1 bag/suitcase. So, I reckon anyone flying with Thomson carrying skis and boots would have to pay the extra £30 for the skis and probably also pay for the extra 3 Kg hold luggage to allow for the boots because otherwise I think it would be a job to carry all the gear one needs on a ski holiday. I've been shovelling rubble and taking it away in a wheel-barrow today, but I'm not sure if this is officially part of my 'get fit to ski' training program

Scapula, I'd like to know as well, please. I'm thinking about trying the sock over liner method myself when my liners pack out - and I have several tube socks wasting space in my ski drawer :D If they're a success I can see the national (query international) sale of ski boots falling by at least 10% next year - with the number of people who read this website  Ally |
