Well, I bought my 200 euros and spent my 600 or so euros on ski passes about a week ago and got 1.16 in Thomsons for the cash (don't know about the ski pass rate exactly but should have been a bit better than the cash with Visa), which I think was a reasonable enough rate.
Small fluctuations like a few cents don't make much difference anyway, unless you're buying a house or something. e.g. a 4% reduction in the rate we get, on £1000, is only £40. I think I got about this rate last year, in Feb. It's surprising really the way the euro is holding up at the moment (or is it that the pound is down as well?). Ally |

We will be having a mirey Christmas here tomorrow - it rained masses yesterday and we had floods everywhere, including outside our house!
Merry Christmas to everyone else, though !!! :D May you all have plenty of snow and ski like Chemmy Alcott (without crashing though!). Ally |

I have been keeping a close eye on the Meribel snow reports on J2Ski (because I'm going there in just over a week!), and so far they've worked fine for me - thanks very much Admin and everyone else involved :D
But I have had odd bits of old stuff coming back up, or not updating, over the few years I've been using this website. I'm not very technically minded but usually when I do a clean up and get rid of my temporary internet files the problem goes away. Ally |

Tignes is made up of several villages linked by lifts, pistes and the free shuttle bus. The funicular up to the Grande Motte glacier starts in Tignes Val Claret.
I've only been to Tignes, so I'm not sure, but I think Val D'Isere and Tignes are only linked by pistes and lifts, not by the free shuttle bus. As Bandit says, Val D'Isere also has it's own glacier but I don't think it's as big as the one at Tignes. Anyway, both Tignes and Val D'Isere are high altitude resorts with very good snow records so I should think you'd be fine with Easter ski-ing staying at either of them :D Ally |

Tony,
I think they are carrying out your idea in the 3 Valleys with their new pay as you go 'liberty' card - which is on another thread. It's meant for people who ski at least 8 days per year and it charges your use directly to your registered bank card - so you only pay for the days you actually ski. And it gives you discounts - like the 9th day of ski-ing is free and they give you 20% off the 3 Valleys pass on Saturday. But you do have to pay 30 euros for it. And, of course, it doesn't work in the rest of France  Ally |

Hi Smartski,
I'm sure someone else knows the answer to this. You've raised a very valid point I reckon. It would be much better if we could use the one card all over France. I've just been re-charging ours. And I had a bit of a problem. I have a card myself but I also have two daughters and one daughter had 2 suitable cards - one for the 3 valleys and one for Val Thorens which is in the same ski area (because she likes collecting them as souvenirs), whilst the other hasn't got a card at all. And I did think to use the 'spare' card for the daughter without one, but then I thought it might cause a problem with i.d. because I suppose it is registered in my other daughter's name. So, in the end I bought another card. I just hope it gets here by the 30th December. Although I suppose if I keep the paperwork I could pick up another one in the lift office there, kind of like I'd lost it. Ally |
