recharging P@S
Started by User in France, 7 Replies
I don't know whether it would work or not. You could e-mail them and ask. But I definitely wouldn't re-charge it without finding out first - imagine if you wasted £200 or so on a ski pass for the wrong area

You wouldn't know about it until you tried to go through the first lift turnstile.

I always buy a new P@S pass for the different ski areas, they only cost a couple of euros or so. And as far as I know they're run by different lift companies.

OldAndy, the tax man will be after ME with a shot gun if I don't get these accounts done!

And thanks to everyone who took part in the dancing - the snow is much appreciated :D

Oh no, that sounds pretty serious. My daughter's going to Tignes by coach leaving on the Friday with the Uni ski trip (24 hour journey). I hope the ferries aren't cancelled or the roads all blocked up with snow.

I want snow, but I want it all in the ski resorts. And I don't want there to be too much wind or they'll shut the gondolas and chairlifts.

And as for the dancing - well I wasn't responsible for that - I've been far too busy lately to do any dancing! :D

I reckon Courchevel is pretty good for beginners as well, especially the slopes of 1650 which are less crowded than those of 1850. We found the cheapest village to stay, and eat in, was 1550 which is only a 5 minute bus ride away from 1650, or a 5 minute gondola ride/ski away from 1850.

I have bought a new ski jacket (so that I can lend my old one to my older daughter), and other than that I will just buy more consumables like sun cream and lip balm and voltarol.

The new ski jacket is great - got it in Millets reduced by something like 75% down to about £25. It's so nice and warm and comfy that I've been wearing it out and about ever since I bought it, plus wearing it in the early mornings in the house with my woolly hat to save the expense of putting the oil central heating on before I light the wood stove.

Jastem found something about travel insurance on MoneySavingExpert.com for the travel insurance thread and when I followed the link there was also a load about Thomas Cook and what you are and are not covered for if they go bust after you've booked a holiday with them:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/travel/2011/11/qa-how-safe-is-thomas-cook

Here is a small extract of what it said (I went to a lecture recently about archiving websites which explained how loads of really interesting material is lost and why links stop working):

I've booked a Thomas Cook flight or hotel outside a package. Am I covered?

Hotel bookings. You are not covered by Atol, Abta or package holiday protection if Thomas Cook goes bust. You may have protection if you paid on plastic, see the 'Did you pay on credit or debit card?' section below.

Flights booked online. You are not covered by Atol, Abta or package holiday protection if Thomas Cook goes bust. You may have protection if you paid on plastic, see the 'Did you pay on credit or debit card?' section below.

Flights booked at a Thomas Cook shop. These will be Atol-protected. If Thomas Cook goes under, you can continue your holiday if abroad or get a refund if still in the UK.

I find this news about Thomas Cook very worrying, not for me personally, but for the ski industry and particularly anyone connected with Thomas Cook.

I hope they weather this storm and everyone gets their holidays okay.

It's not always easy to know who you're actually booked with. Like, for example, I booked our accommodation through Igluski. The owner of the accommodation is Pierre et Vacances, but Igluski booked it through Ski Horizon who, they assure me, are an independant tour operator. However, we booked our train tickets directly with Eurostar.

Even if Thomas Cook went bust and all the customers of Thomas Cook got their money back, that's not really the point, as the customers want their holidays and the providers of the holiday accommodation etc. all want their money.

If the worst comes to the worst, who is big enough and has enough money to take over Thomas Cook?

Hi Snapzzz,
That's awful

Poor you. I hope you find someone else to go with.

My younger sister did that to me, as well, a few years ago. She had a last minute panic about being middle-aged and hurting herself ski-ing (she's a very good skier) and cancelled her trip even though it meant losing nearly the whole of the cost of her accommodation and flights. So the kids and I had to ski without her.

I was hoping that one of my friend would ski with me and my grown up kids during our New Year holiday in Meribel but unfortunately they are all busy with other things.
