A few years ago my son went skiing with the air cadets so we took a friend for my daughter rather than her come along with us on her own.
As my daughter is a very competent skier they decided to learn to snowboard together.
They were 14 at the time, I had known the friend for years, knew she wouldn't strop or get homesick and my daughter had already been away with her many times.

We worked out how much lessons, hire, passes etc would cost and we charged an amount for food and towards the cost of the travel.
We were upfront about the money and she bought her own drinks and snacks on the slopes.
It worked really well.

It does depend on the child, they do have to be pretty resilient. A ski holiday is knackering at the best of times and if she didnt like being away from home it could be quite stressful.

The only problem we had was the friend getting car sick on the way to the tunnel.
We were driving to Samoens and I visions of a very long journey as she chucked into a bag on the motorway!

Bizarrely it went away once we had made the crossing to France.

Yes, you are right. Alagna is beautiful.
Absolutely stunning.

When the lift was closed we asked about driving to Gressony or Champoluc, but it was impossible. Far too far.

Just for a weekend.
Lovely.

Now, that I dolike. I wonder if it will be available on my budget (peanuts) as a teletext last minute job;-j

It was quite a cheap weekend and the restaurants in Alagna were fantastic. The accom was amazing! Because the walls are stone the ceilings are painted bright clours. It snowed really heavily and we lay in bed watching it fall. It was magical.
What I will say about Alagna though is that when we were there the top lift was closed for one day so we were limited to the one run in to the village.
Prior to that day we had skied into Gressoney. Expecting to be able to do the same the next day we didn't explore as much as we would have liked.

So, If you are prepared for the possibility of lift closures go for it.
It really is stunning there.
We flew into Malpensa. You definitely need a car.
