Something Ally said has prompted this post...
Thought I'd start a new thread as I didn't want to wibble up the other one. Do any resorts traditionally keep their lifts running later into the day than others? I've only skied in France and Canada so far but they both closed around 4pm with loads of light left. It felt like we had to stop in the middle of the afternoon! In Canada we had to convince the instructor that if the lifts shut at four then we want to be at the top of the mountain at 4, not just arriving at the bottom. I might be inclined to spend a little more time and money on lunch if I didn't begrudge the time away from skiing. Is it just me or does anyone else have similar feelings? Cheers, Owen. |

Great topic Ally.
For me the forum has expanded skiing into a proper hobby. Before joining skiing was something I'd think about the week before I went, and for a few days after. Now it's available all year round. Slightly on topic (ish) who are J2ski and how did it all come about? I'd presumed that Admin and News were the same person, but that was wrong. Is it a club with an elected leader, or a group of enthusiasts who started a forum? Owen. |

I did a couple of long coach trips and likened them to the worst hangover you'll ever have.
(1) You stagger out the other side like the walking dead (2) Pounding head (3) Aching limbs (4) Dehydrated (5) Smelling like a student flat And… (6) Swearing to the God of your choice "I promise I'll never do that again…" But then next week someone says "We're too full to drink more beer, shall we break out the shots?" or "Fancy a kayak trip?" and you mind says "it wasn't really that bad was it?" and off you go again… That was a while ago so coach seats and air conditioning should have improved. Are things better now? I'm tempted as our local ski club does a coach trip once a year... Owen. |

Extending poles could use one of those small CO2 capsules to extend or retract...
They'd have a point on the end and could extend rather quickly. Could be useful when dealing with Frenchmen in lift queues or for making a point to boarders sitting in a line across a piste... Owen. |

Sounds sensible  Having had a further play it would seem to be the case. A sharp tug releases the clip causing no damage to pole or the clip on the strap. (At least on the trigger-one). I can't believe the design would go backwards so presume the trigger-s does the same. Owen. |

I bought a pair of these, to wear over my existing gloves, and a couple of pairs of poles to suit. :- They're the older trigger one (with the plastic rectangular clip rather than the metal hoop) so all in it was less than £30 for the whole lot. Yanking on them they do not "seem" to have a safety release. Don't want to pull on them too hard before I've even used them in anger. The newer trigger-s looks like it could have, at least that is the way I would have designed it! In my not very humble opinion any skier who doesn't fall over once in a while isn't trying hard enough  Owen. |

I too thought the censorship a little harsh. But it's not my forum, so I don't have a say.
