Wasley: accommodation is difficult to get in most resorts for "split" weeks. They will definitely hold out for Saturday to Saturday if they can. The bigger and more popular the resort, the more difficult it is. We were not able to find accommodation in the village itself and had to stay in a hotel about 3 miles down the valley. As we had hired a car, this was not that big a deal. There was also a decent skibus service, though that finished before the après-ski did . Lots of searching, a fair degree of flexibility on what you will take and, sometimes, if you are brave enough to leave it late, they will "free" up previously unavailable rooms.

You are correct about leaving it late .The near to our departure date the more accommodation came available ,mainly private Apartments or hotels further out.But as there were 8 of us we may of had to split up into different hotels.

Good trip report and somewhere to consider for next year

I was looking a Ischgl as a option for next year
Did you have trouble finding Accommodation Thursay-tuesday ???
As we went to Solden early Feb but looked at many other Austrian resorts and couldnt find anywhere that would take us Thursay-tuesday so had to go Sunday-friday even then the majority would only take bookings Sat-Sat or Sun-Sun.
Looking Xmas in Austria/Italy/Andorra B&B or self catering

Do most of the pubs/restaurants open normal hours on Xmas Eve/day or would we have to find a Hotel serving food.

I'm guessing they are open but not sure if its like the UK everything shuts around 4-5pm Xmas eve and opens again Boxing day??

thanks

What were the lift queues like during the day.
I also noticed on the resort web site that the glaciers were closed on some days. Was this because of high winds or poor visibility.
Did you complete the Big3 route. What was that like if you did.

I never queued more than 5 minutes and most lifts straight on.It was a little windy at the very top but i think they closed them due to viability but never for very long .I did do the Big 3 but not in one day .But there's no reason it couldn't be done.
Blue 30 can run a little flat in places so get some good speed before you hit the flats. The only run i didnt realy try was 21/22 back to Giggijoch lift station as were staying about 100 meters fron Gaislachkogl lift station.

Have to 100% agree with njw964 about Chris and co, Irish bar and Pizzeria Milano next door..We would eat in the Pizzeria (lots of varied dishes) then into the irish bar next door. From the front the Pizzera looks like a cheap Takeaway but out the back it has a very nice seating area.

I hate typing so no long trip report but any questions im happy to answer

The skiing was excellent but Its not a place for beginners as its mostly reds and the Blues are more like reds, also the final 200 yards of the run back to the Gaislachkogl lift station is a crowded mogul filled run of sugar/sand type snow

Any free lifts/slopes in Solden
