Watterski: Loads of people ski on their own, and to be honest, most other skiers are so focussed on what they themselves are doing, not what you are doing or who you are doing it with, that it won't be an issue !

Hi Rocksy

We were there same time as you're thinking of last year. It was fine, except right down at the very bottom where it could become a little heavy around mid-afternoon. Have a good one !

One thing that comes to mind is the question of where in the world you are skiing. Most posters on this forum seem to ski in nearby western Europe, ie, within the EU (with the exception of Switzerland of course). So even if the worst (ok, not the very worst, but let's say a broken leg), happens, once you're off the mountain you will have a level of cover equivalent to that of the locals so long as you have your EHIC, insofar as I understand it. You may have to pay, but only to the same level as a local would. However, if you are skiing in the USA, or somethere even more exotic, Chile say, or Japan, then your insurance cover becomes far more critical, as I doubt those countries will provide anything free for damaged UK skiers !

Does anyone know if a scheme similar to the French Carre Neige operates in other popular countries, eg Austria ?

The trouble is, Nelly, that you can only really swear by it if you have had to use it ! I guess most of us prefer never to have to find out whether our insurance is any good or not !
Indeed so, Tony; that's where I went for my fitting. By the way, "customer insoles" should of course have read "custom". Tapping too carelessly today :)
Tony: not sure where you live in the UK, but in case it's of any interest to you I had what I consider an excellent boot-fitting consultation from a guy called Andi McCann who runs Alpine McCannix and also works with BASI. He took me through the ins and outs of customer insoles, canting, etc.
Looking at these pics really is a pretty good substitute for (not) being there :)

Old Andy is in fact only a few years older than me - but then I guess I am pretty old myself - I've passed the half century point now ....

Which un fortunately continues to recede at an ever-increasing rate in the rear-view mirror of time
