Hi
As fas as I am aware the Hintertux is skiable pretty well all year round; whether lifts are working 365 days I don't know. It can be a bit bleak though. You realise, of course, it's quite a long way from Vienna ! |

I echo Innsbrucker's comments; I look forward to keeping up with your site's development and your suggested techniques, Peter.

I suspect the answer to your problem lies in your own first statement:
"I went skiing for the first time in January and I had an instructor for about an hour on day one" :) |

I ski fairly often with a group of Austrian, German and Bulgarian friends and colleagues, all of whom are far better skiers than me. They all wear helmets, but tell me they have only been doing so for the last 3 years or so as awareness has been raised. On the other hand, it is a mistake to think that wearing a helmet will necessarily prevent head injuries. I suppose, though, that without a helmet, the same bump would turn out to have more serious consequences. As regards "looking simple", well, I'd rather look simple than be knocked into actually being simple ! But that, as others have said, is my personal choice; other skiers have other points of vierw to which they are of course entitled.
But to return to the original question, no, it certainly is not just a Brit thing. |

Lovely song; great singer. Pretty impossible to sing that one without a smile on your face n'est-ce pas ? |

If you're looking for a ready-made playlist, have a look at Spotify; they have an expert one and an intemediate one, amazingly ! I always find that the tapes get mangled when I take my Walkman onto the slopes though.

I agree with what has been said, but one tip which may be of use is to get a Halifax Clarity credit card, and use that for everything where you don't want to use cash. Reason is, they don't charge any fees for overseas use, the exchange rate they apply is very fair, and you can even withdraw cash from ATMs abroad without any fees. Of course, interest applies from the time you withdraw the cash, but if you pay this back in via internet banking, or pre-set up a payment before you leave the UK, then you avoid interest charges. I'm not aware of any other credit cards which are quite so rip-off free overseas as this one, but no doubt there are some others which other J2Skiers may know of.
