I think you just need to accept skiing is the ultimate bad etiquette sport:
Lifts going 1/2 full as people can be separated from friends for few minutes Skiers on slopes which are beyond their ability: Can't hold a consistent line Need to stop every 100m for rest Etc. etc. Hence best not to worry too much, as am sure we all fall foul at times of annoying people. Only difference is how we rationalize as being acceptable behavior. |

Interesting article but is a bit black and white. Reality is locals in Chamonix tend to spend a significant number of days in Courmayeur. Both for long lunches but also because it has some of best offpiste and tree skiing in the Alps. I think many would argue that the piste skiing is also superior. Overall an amazing resort for a mixed group and so many options within 30min drive. Given is only 1 1/2 hrs from Geneva no idea why more Brits don't visit.

Still the greatest test in skiing. Find a good mogul skier and 100% they can kill the pow and the piste.
Nice skiing in the video! |

If you look at webcams then I doubt snow will be a issue, but as VSB says you need to check lift opening. Chamonix does not typically deviate from schedule as the number of skiers don't justify opening the lifts regardless of conditions. Note different areas open on different dates Balme 10th, GM 16th http://www.compagniedumontblanc.co.uk/
Definitely worth a shot although Cervinia would always be the standout choice for December skiing. |

Looks pretty wet, might be bin bag skiing conditions.

Totally agree with Dobby given your level of skiing and the options listed you are buying a ski that is inferior to what can be rented at any shop in the Alps. Some of the skis you suggest are a 2010 design and skis have really moved on since then.
If you really wanted a progressive new toy then the Head Supershape Rally looks like a great ski and you should be able to get away with a 163cm version for your height. These are the sort of ski that will improve almost everyone's skiing. Am not convinced any on your list fit into that category. |

Pretty expensive. Depends where your skiing but am sure day passes would work out cheaper for a lot of people, especially if you end up doing a 1/2 day (4hrs).
Nice picture of the Petit Aigulle Verte towering over the Grand Montets lift though. |
