I don't see how it makes any sense, selling it for £99, even ignoring the price of the flights because presumably they can't get that money back. I mean, I'd have thought it would cost nearly £99 to feed etc. a person for a week in a chalet. Maybe they make a big profit in the bar or something?

Tony - I think Dave Mac knew exactly what he was talking about - he just made a spelling mistake. In fact, re-reading what I wrote this morning, so did I, and I had the Lauda web page open in front of me   |

Yes, you're quite right. If you click on my link to the history of Lauda and scroll to the bottom it says this: Niki Lauda, born in Vienna in 1949, starts his career as a Formula I racing driver in 1971. Always fascinated by the world of aviation, he wins the Formula I World Championship twice before acquiring a charter concession and founding his own airline in 1979 with two Fokker 27 aircraft. Oh, and the latest news seems to be that Niki Lauda's other airline, flyniki.com, a low cost charter service to destinations in Europe and the Middle East, has been sold to Air Berlin and that he now has a seat on the Board of Directors of Air Berlin (but it's only recently happened and I'm not too sure about the details). Hi Dave Mac and Tony, I was rather curious about this, so I looked up the history of Lauder and Austrian Airlines: http://www.austrianairlines.ag/AustrianAirlinesGroup/Profil/OurHistory.aspx?sc_lang=en http://www.laudaair.com/en/about-us/lauda-air-history.html It seems that Austrian Airlines was founded in 1957 and Lauder in 1979. The former began buying a stake in the latter in 1997, and completed the takeover in 2002. Austrian Arrows and Lauda Air are now brands of Austrian Airlines Group, with the Lauda brand operating chartered flights. And in 2009 Austrian Airlines became a member of the Lufthansa Group, together with Swiss. It is all very confusing  Ally |

Well, to tell you the truth Tony, I was wondering what the tissue dispensers were for. Where do they keep them in the resort?
I'm not sure about heated seats but they definitely have those windscreen things on at least one of the chair lifts in Meribel because I can remember chatting to the French guy next to me and asking him what they call them in French because I wasn't at all sure what to call them in English  The only other place I've seen the windscreen things is in Obergurgl. Hi Lizzie,
I wondered where you'd gone to. I don't think anyone else has reported any difficulties with the site. Anyway, nice to see you back :D I suppose another idea would be to put all our ski resort reports in the same place somewhere, or maybe with the details on the resort - but we might have to edit them a bit first  List of J2Skiers off ski-ing week starting Saturday 17th March Biki17 - La Tania in the 3 Valleys ACarr - Saas Fee Dorset Boy - Valloire Trencher - Utah (leaving on 20th March) List of J2Skiers off ski-ing week starting Saturday 24th March Oldboarder - Brides-Les-Bains in the 3 Valleys Caltonhat - Courmayeur (22nd - 26th March) List of J2Skiers off ski-ing week starting Saturday 31st March Michelle63 - Les Deux Alpes Dids1 - Les Houches/Chamonix Snowy0000 - Tignes (1st April for 10 days) Anyone else? |
