Icy,
I think you've frightened poor Dids away

She's a happily married middle-aged J2Skier, something like myself :D

And I think Snapzzz has gone off to the kitchen to look for some chips. Do they serve chips in ski chalets?

It just goes to show why it's not a good idea to ask people how much money they earn, or how many houses they own, at the dinner table. It causes a great deal of confusion

Perhaps we should stick to less controversial subjects.

What did you think of the soup, Snapzzz? I fancy it could have done with a little more fresh parsley myself.

Snapzzz,
Having 2 houses doesn't necessarily mean that poor Icy is loaded - it's more likely to mean that he owes an awful lot of money to a certain bank or building society!

It's quite simple, Icy, we're doing chalet practice, in case any of us ever end up in one. I seem to remember you and Snapzzz expressing doubts about sharing a dinner table with people you don't know, in a chalet.

And I've never been in a small chalet. So I reckon we could all do with some practice.

Snapzzz - I rather think that what Icy means is that he does a weekly commute between his 2 homes. My parents used to do that as well.

Oh - Icy left the dinner table - without even waiting for dessert! His work must be very important if he's doing it on a ski holiday.

Icy,
Could you pass the salt please?

And what did you say Andy, just now, about being confused? I didn't quite catch that.

Do you think it would be okay to ask about how many children the other dinner guests have, and where they live etc.?

This thread is making me a bit nervous, in case I ever end up in a chalet and I put my foot in it and say something awful and then have to sit next to the same person at dinner all week

that's usually called ones spouse, partner, lover ......

well in my experience anyway

Oh - I'm not worried about HIM. He knew I was a total idiot long before we were married. It's very nice really, because I know that whatever awful thing I do/say it will never surprise/shock him. It's the OTHER dinner guests I'm worried about. The ones who haven't been warned about me beforehand

If anyone asks me how much I earn I can very truthfully say that I don't know. We have lots of tax deductible expenses and allowances and things and I never know which figure to use from which bottom line.

And, of course, the accountants have to work it all out, and our farm tax year ends long before the 5th April, but the cottages have to stick to the 5th April - so between skipping and hopping I have absolutely no idea!

But, hopefully, we will continue to earn enough to pay for at least one ski holiday per year, which is what really matters :D
