In Tirol, children go to school 6 days a week, finishing early afternoon. So by 2.00pm, they are either free skiing or race training, (or on the computer!) In the week before the Hahnemkam, we are visited by international teams, who use our race area, and this is great for the local kids, they get to ski with national heroes.
As in the USA, most internationals rise up through the ranks of the club and regional development system. |

To add some local level background, many villages/valleys have a Ski Racing Club, generally geared to junior race development. Hence, although you may think that a young one would benefit from a national approach, when you consider that there are tens of thousands of junior ski racers in Europe, a valley/regional club might be another way.
I was a member of the Wildschoenau Race Club, and still follow their fortunes. So last March, in a typical league race:

Hi Biki,
Congratulations on your choice of country, such wisdom. There will be an Ian Wickam along soon, attempting to convert you, just listen politely, and smile..... Given your location, and date, my suggestion would be to leave your decision late. From your location, it is difficult to conceive there would be a lack of flights. The 8 January is already starting to attracting price reductions, and is usually one of the best value weeks of the season. Hence, you can wait until you see if destinations such as Söll or Saalbach, have a) a good snow base, b) a good forecast. |

I doubt if you can get a discount from anywhere.
Price depends on low/high season. http://www.bergfex.com/fieberbrunn/preise/ |

Great War wound! Shame the boot will hide it.
Glad to see you are on the road to recovery, Rossy. Watch out for infection for a week or two, then get going. Good luck. |

I accept there is no point scoring intended Tony. What I have reported is what the pilot said to the passengers, after the Verona take off. Certainly, my son easily managed to get compensation.

Given that the OP has young children, it is advantageous to be in a small resort. You are never more than 15 minutes away from meeting up with the young ones, either at the end of class, or should the instructor call you in.
The advantage of being in a 200km resort with two young ones escapes me. My own boys learned the basics in Niederau, they are now both terrific skiers, certainly a lot better than one or two people I have skied with. As for better skiers, if the place is good enough for International teams to work there, it is good enough for many of the rest of us, although perhaps not for some elite skiers..... |
