You're wearing bright blue trousers!

As for comfort, I disagree. I wore a belt the year before last, and it was either too tight, or I ended up looking like a 12 year old with his trousers hanging of his a*se.

Hanging off you a*se does give you street cred though -)

Just looked & boots only is £50 on snowbrainer which is a fair portion of the new boot price.

Thanks for your input Gaz & I think the ski buying is a goer & I will check to see if you can hire boots only & how much, as another way round the matter.

I looked at snowbrainer & they were a bit cheaper at £178 or €206 at today's rate, that's for Black/Gold skis, boots & ins.Now I have started looking at buying ski gear I'm getting the bug back for having my own, 2 trips booked for this year & the J2 next year could almost pay for it all & I would be looking to get more trips in also.

Its the ski boots prob that's bugging me I know 27 is the ideal length & my feet are 11cms wide but boot retailers ect don't give width fittings just Med/Wide if you're lucky. As I don't live in the UK but keep my stuff there the boot fitting is out of the question & I think if I buy boots online I may be able to get them adjusted ect in the resort if I had probs with them.

I know the general consensus is not to buy online but many people must do or the option would not exist. If I were younger & living in the UK I would of course go to the shop & get it done right, in my case its not an option & no ski stuff on the rock to get locally.

Salski wrote:Brooksy - I hire skis & always check out Snowbrainer, Skiset & Snowrental. For the last 2 years Snowbrainer have come out a lot cheaper. We've had excellent service from Sport 2000 & top of the range brand new skis. We do ski at Christmas, so all the higher range stuff is new for the season. It's much more expensive to go direct to the individual shop. It can take a few hours doing all the comparisons, but worth it for the savings you can make.

Thanks I will check it out, although it seems like there are only a few hire shops in Obergurgl central.

Remember that you should have hospital and other medical cover under European E111 card. However, this will not cover you for on piste injuries, but, depending on where you are staying opt for the local ski insurance at the resort when purchasing your ski lift. This insurance will cover you for anything on piste including helicopter removal and onward journey to medic centre or hospital whatever is required. This type of cover in France and Italy is usually 1.50euro per day. Hope this may help. Colpam

The EHIC will cover you for all A&E treatment skiing related as well, but remember depending on which country you're in you may still have to pay some costs for this, the rest is as Colpam states.

The EHIC may cover hospital treatment.
But most medical centres in sci resorts are private and the health card is of little use.
Best to get high quality travel insurance. Cheap is very often a false economy in this area. But on what is in the small print (yes, there is lots to read and it will take a while), not on anything else.
A skiing holiday is one of the most accident prone types of popular holiday and there is a very real chance you may have to make a claim at some point.

I ski in a party of around 15. In six trips, two people have had to be carried off the mountain and made claims - one beginner and one expert.

I have used EHIC after having an accident in Switzerland & they have only private compulsory health insurance, they refused the card giving the reason that they didn't know what it was.Kept the bills & claimed through the Spanish health service when I got back. If you are to use this card you must go for medical treatment equivalent to your own countries health service even when the other country has private the same as Switzerland, so don't knock it unless you've tried it, definitely worth having.
Great report Tony & enjoyed reading it, pleased you all had a good time :)
