Wickers - I also have a dodgy knee. From reading up on it, you should ditch the heat pad - heat is a no no apparently. Follow the RICE treatment ie Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate. It took mine 2 weeks to recover and it's still not 100 per cent. Good luck.

I use price comparison websites, but check the cover for each policy carefully, especially for things like loss of hired equipment. Given that a set of skis could cost £500 or more you want to make sure if they get stolen there is enough cover there. I usually end up buying a mid-price policy rather than the cheapest one.
Snapzzy my advice would be to leave the poor child alone. She will come on at her own pace, especially when she cottons on to the fact that snow-ploughing is harder on the legs. I think it's fantastic that she enjoys skiing and you wouldn't want to spoil that. My 11 year-old daughter is also an only child, not big on group lessons etc, so we get private lessons for her. I don't think parents should attempt to teach their children skiing as it only leads to frustration and tantrums (and that's just the parents!)

How to put more pressure on your toes

Thanks everyone for your advice. I think a trip to a good boot fitter is in order, even if I have to raid my piggy bank for the money

Thanks - a really interesting read. I was considering Alpe d'Huez this year, except we got a good deal for Saas Fee instead. Having read your review, I would still consider Alpe d'Huez - it sounds like it would be ideal for our standard of skiing. It's good to hear about Ski Total as well as we haven't ever used them before. Your comments about the chalet were excellent - the sort of things I would definitely want to know about, such as the bath/shower thing.

Sorry - my bad description. I really meant that I feel I need to lean forward more, not just my toes. I do feel pressure of my shins pushing against the boot, but I feel my centre of gravity is still more to the rear, leading to a sense of instability. The photos posted by SwingBeep on the other thread are interesting. I'm going to put my boots on and look in the mirror to see which photo is more like me. I might experiment with a heel lift as well when I get to the slopes.
