I am finding the Olympics fantastic viewing at the moment and I have a huge sense of pride watching our rowers, cyclists and sailors winning so many medals - long may it continue.

Very, very nicely put Jan.

We seem to be in agreement. For me its about improving technique whilst skiing with good, controlled speed. About getting the best from every run and pushing myself hard.

I may get 3 weeks on snow each year at best and whilst that is more than many, its still nowhere near enough!!

Its about enjoying the scenery, the company, the cusine...

Bring it on.

We have a different idea of "good" skier, it seems, so will have to agree to disagree and respect one another's opinions eh?

And I can't possibly agree that its definitive, simply because we are all different and have different ideas about it.

So (moving on and avoiding any semantics) - you are obviously an experienced, "good" skier - what do you look for?

You've conveniently editted out a key part of my point.

As I say, no one has the definitive answer and its obviously all about opinions.

From my own experience, I have ski-ed with some hugely accomplished skiers, who are quick, very technically proficient and enjoy shredding reds and blacks from first til last. A good day for them, is a long day, having covered as much mileage as possible.

No one can argue with that; its a personal thing.

Therefore, Ise (and Bandit, Admim) it isn't true to say that good skiers don't seek to rack up the mileage.

What is true is to say that some good skiers like the mileage and some go for something else, perhaps new, unski-ed powder trails for instance.

Bang on the money though. 8)

I'm pretty sure there are good skiers out there who like to test themselves by skiing as much as they can in terms of mileage, as well as new runs/particularly difficult runs etc.

I defy any of us to have the absolute answer, but its surely wide of the mark to say "good skiers are not out to bag mileage"

Isn't it?

Phone Aosta Railways and ask for Inspector Camoranese.

It'll be a laugh, if nothing else.

Wasn't thinking of anywhere in particular, tbh.
