Advice for a Bulgaria Virgin
Started by Crispyapplepie in Bulgaria, 10 Replies, discussing Grandvalira and Tignes
I have only been to Borovets a couple of times and the last time was about 5 years ago so my recollections are a bit dated ...first of all dont go late in the season as it is low lying and gets slushy..end January should be ok If you go to a GOOD hotel half board is OK but there are a load of restaurants which where all good value. The skiing is OK for intermediates for a week at the most and if some of the longer runs are out of action ,,its a bit sparse. as to safety I had no problems at all..as to what's to look at ...not much..

It is difficult to find single rooms but if you are prepared to organise it yourself it can be done .. I usually went on tripadvisor and looked up hotels in the place I wanted to go to and then went to the hotels web site ..you will usually find that they do have single rooms..or try the tourist office for the town and ask them ..they are usually quite efficient..doing it yourself is easy and can be cheaper than the tour operators especially for single rooms

The run down to La Ros from the top is OK but it is a {or was} a bit of a drag to return ..long drag lifts Run 31 is ok ..here's a (poor) video taken with a hand held camera 10 years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM_qnHBWZfo

The blacks down to the village are ok ...just steep and no 7 is just.....long

Nice place though
its all subjectivity ,,but latest season I did 3 weeks first in la Tania ..a nice resort in the 3 valleys but not much in the resort and the restaurants both in the resort and on the slopes were expensive,,,I wont even think of buying a coffee in Courcheval but the skiing is great..of any in the 3 Valleys I prefer Val Thorens for the better access...Campitello di Fassa the Dolomites was great we stopped in a nice little hotel which gave us great food at a very reasonable price and the coffee is affordable on the slopes..so is lunch and there is so much skiing that you cannot do it all ...then on to Austria good value excellent hotel but the skiing as more limited but the coffee is affordable ...we are going back to the dolomites this season 3 weeks two different resorts

What do you value the most when choosing next resort?

I will have to think about that ..value and range of skiing for me as i do go out of high season and like interesting skiing ..that's why i am going back to the Dolomites this season ..there is so much to ski and its good value compared to France
love you to add discounts for seniors and the kids price on the list might forgo the 1 day costs as how many people go for 1 day but otherwise fantastic I've added a couple ...you should group the areas together ..for instance I have added the dolomiti superski which does include Kronplatz and Cortina
Yes and no ...we are out in the Dolomites for 3 weeks .1 week before the group arrives to join us for a week then the group is moving to Alta Badia
will do..... we are across the road in the Primula
