Ski Boot Bags
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 67 Replies
We have had a problem carrying boots as hand luggage. They let us check in with them but when we got to the gate they took all boot bags off anyone trying to take them on as hand luggage and insisted they went in the hold.

When I questioned this I was told they were classed as offensive weapons and not allowed in the cabin. I know my feet can pong a bit after a day's skiing but I thought this was a bit extreme

I have never known of anyone clubbing a fellow passenger to death with a ski boot either but I guess it just goes to show that they make the rules up as they go along. I suppose if you can find a bag that doesn't look like a boot bag, you stand a better chance of getting them on as hand luggage but you take the risk.

We are driving to Tignes in January, no problem with my offensive boots on that journey

Bandit is 100% right, eat less food = weight loss.

I haven't found any miracle cure (and I have looked). The only thing that works for me is simply to reduce what goes in and (if I can be bothered) take more exercise.

And I still have my treats (chocolate is my favourite) but in small doses.

I have also found an ice cream in a wafer hits the spot and it's fairly low cal.

My weight loss program is going OK (have to lose a stone) othrwise those ski pants are going to take the strain

I only have 4 pounds to go now :D

But keeping it off may be a bigger challenge :(

I have yet to get back on the torture machine (cross trainer) to get those leg muscles strengthened. Otherwise I won't stand a chance of keeping up with Ally in Tignes
First purchases for the season ahead

I have managed to stay out of the local ski outfitters so far. I was tempted but managed to veer away at the last moment. I'm not sure if I can keep it up for much longer though... the ski fever is starting to get to me.

Not that I need any new equipment...... that's never stopped me before though
Where to stay in Val Thorens!

We rented an apartment through Owners Direct and it was very reasonable. www.ownersdirect.co.uk/val-thorens.htm

They had a local rep who gave us the keys and arranged a cleaning service, it was all very easy. There is underground parking available (if you drive).

We stayed in an apartment block right in the middle which was convenient for shops etc and had great views but was a little noisy.

My daughter picked Biology, Geography, Food and Nutrition and Business Studies........ then when we got home she decided she didn't like Biology.

I think there are a lot of trips with Geography and Business Studies! It's going to be an expensive 2 years!!
Ski Water Slide.

We came across this slide when we were in Les Arcs 3 years ago.

There is a convenient chalet/restaurant at the bottom right opposite the wet end. You can sit there on a deck chair with a beer and enjoy the antics of the brave/foolhardy people who give it a go.

The run down is quite long and from what I could see, you need to have quite a lot of speed to clear the pool and lean back slightly as you reach the water (so the tips don't dig in). Only the very committed seemed to have any chance and after watching for half an hour, I only saw one who actually did it. The rest ended up very wet and very cold.

Not for me but hilarious to watch.
