Hi,
As with Paul, try and get as early flght out as possible to avoid the main traffic that can back up the N902 from Moutiers to Tignes ( this road also serves La Plagne , Les Arcs , La Rosiere , Ste-Foy , Tignes & Val D'Isere and is the only road in or out of the valley/s ). From Chambery just folow the signs for Albertville -> Moutiers -> Bourg-St-Maurice. Once at the end of the A43/A430 and entering Moutiers you will see white signs with black lettering for Bourg-St-Maurice/Les Arcs etc stay in the relevent lane and follow the road up the valley to BsM. When you get to BsM stay on the main road through and head over the first round-about and head down the hill, at the next cross road head straight over, you then come to another round-about ( near the train station ) ...again go straight over to the next one. At the next round about ( SuperU and Intermarche are on this round about so you know you are on the right road ) take the 2nd exit and head to the small village of Seez , carry on through Seez and at the other end the road Forks, take the right fork and stay on this road heading through Viclaire , Petite Viclaire , Ste-Foy-en-Tarentaise , La Thuile ( not the Italian one ) and then just stay on the road all the way to Tignes. Again as Paul mentions check that your hire car is supplied with snowchains , if you have to buy any ( and the road from Moutiers to BsM is clear ) I would suggest SuperU in BsM , the snowchains are located in the far right corner of the hypermarket and they will stock a large selection for all makes and size of tyre. I hope this helps, have a great time and a safe , enjoyable trip. Jon. P.s If you haven't sorted car hire out , I can recommend AutoEurope 0800 169 9797 ( you can book online , but if you ring up you can reserve a diesel car, online it's pot luck ). |

Hi,
Avoid all the bank holidays and school holidays and things will be great. One day I hope to spend a season out in the alps.....and if the economy goes pear shaped early next year ( Santander don't look good )then next season it will be.... :D :D Also if cold will or is a problem look for last minute deals at the very end of the season for particular resorts ( Les arcs last skiable day is 30th April I think , and Val D'Isere is around the 6th May ). You can get some blinding deals , and also excellent snow in late April, but head high and snowsure ( pick somewhere high and if possible with a glacier ). Have a great time , where ever you end up. jon. |

Hi All,
I came across this today , and it reminded me that although we all love the cold , snowy winter months....it's not so great for the little furry animals and critters.... ....so please remember to put some food out for them this winter , I think I may be developing a warm , fluffy side :D

Hi All,
This is absolutely smashtastic news.. :D :D :D , yes although at the grand old age of 38....where snow is concerned..yes I'm actually about 5 years old. There is a weather forecaster called joe Bastardi ( yes it's his real name folks ) and he says that the UK will experience a winter similar to last years, but Europe from the Pyranees to Eastern European Countris such as Bosnia, Albania, and as far as Turkey and northern Greece are set to experience a right snowy, bitterly cold b*****d of a winter. He is also predicting large snow events ( above normal across the alps ).....hopefully the winter gods are paying attention and reading from the same script . Just make sure you all have good tyres , top up your anti-freeze and put a winter solution in your screen wash, a set of chains might be a good idea anyway and I'm sure all will be fine. Checking up on elderly neighbours etc should be mentioned more also I feel. Heres to a massive winter....right wheres my hip flask? :D jon. |
