Rose, you are just a young thing.

There seems to be something odd about your description of when your dizzyness occurs.

Were there to be a defiency of some kind, you might expect the dizzyness to be persistent. However, you report that it occurs during the first three days of a holiday. Almost as though there is a trigger.

Dizzyness from altitude is not something normally suffered from at typical Tyrolean altitudes. Many of us suffer to varying degrees at 3000m to 4000m.

I do get dizzy spells occasionally over here and do get out of breath and dizzy just on a walking holiday in Cornwall. But apart from surgery which was completely successful have a clean bill of health.
Also I dont get up to the heights that you guys do. But I do know that severe anaemia does cause problems it could just be the altitude exacerbates it. We shall see, I do know that taking Bucastem gets me through those first couple of days.
It could also be the Gluwein 'tho  Just have to wait and see, also next years hols will be very low altitude.

Thanks for all advice, having reached the over 50 stage I really should start doing something about it.
The one problem I have had for several years, is the first two or three days of any holiday I suffer from dizziness. I know altitude affects things but I dont really go to high altitude places. It passes after a few days and its not only during activity.
My hubby thinks its after a flight my balance is a bit affected.
But I learnt something back in June when I had surgery and a lot of blood tests, that I am severely anaemic. I should have spotted this, because I know anaemia causes tiredness, dizziness and breathlessness. So have been having iron injections and tablets so will be interested to see next year if these problems stop. If not I am not sure what it is. I eat well and always drink plenty, so its not dehydration.

Switzerland is full of them ) Gstaad or Leukerbad would tick all the boxes but there's a lot of others.

Switzerland has always been on my wish list, but never sure where?
I have always fancied Grindelwald but know little about it.

When it comes to holidays I suppose I am quite picky, I know what I like and what I dont like. As I have said on previous threads Seefeld is my fav place it ticks all the boxs for me, and I would be quite happy to go every year, in fact I do. But I realise through this forum there are so many wonderful places out there that I should give a try. Plus my OH wants to try different places hence why Finland next year, but he does not know I have booked Seefeld as well.
So this is my criteria for my perfect holiday does any-one know if it exists.
Not too long a flight..........I hate flying.
Fly preferable from local airports.
Short transfer time............want my hol to start immediately
Sure fire snow.
Scenic.
Slopes dont have to be that challenging........I am not that experienced.
Must have cross country ski-ing, hiking trails, cleared walks, and plenty of other alpine activities
Must have good restaurants and fun bars, lively but not party central.
Quality shops.......always my bday while we are away, got to visit jewellers.
Slopes within walking distance, even if its a 45min walk.....hate ski bus's.
Quality hotel, 4* or above, with good food and spa and pool and sauna
Have a train station....I like to visit surrounding places.
Although apres-ski, nice friendly local bars, but a couple of nights like to dress up and have good night out. Casino or theatre or something similar.
I think thats it, does a place like this exist?

I consider myself pretty fit but I dont really do anything........or so I thought.
I am on my feet sometimes 9 hrs a day at work. I have quite a big house which needs cleaning and decorating. We do a lot of walking along the beach, especially on sand which really makes my calves ache. I have a massive garden and now a 100ft allotment which is now partially cleared. I swim and surf when I can. But my son, a fitness fanatic says I dont do enough. I just dont seem to have enough time.
I suppose a month before ,I do increase the walking trying to take in more hills, but am usually so out of breath.
The first couple of days on holiday we usually start with cross country ski-ing, it does seem to help us, find our feet on ski's, aclimatise ourselves to weather conditions etc and certainly gets the heart rate going, and helps with the breathing.
We eat a good diet, take vitamins, dont drink that much. Are we doing enough?

I am sorely tempted to sell, just think of all the aerosmith cds I could buy, plus the dvds, Tshirts, and memorabilia I could buy.
But when I look at it, its a reminder of one of the wierdest weekends I have ever had.
