I'm not sure if the print version of that is any more satisfactory, I though the on-line version was a bit facile to put it mildly.

My guess is that ski widths will settle down around some sort of norm' and that norm' will be under 90mm for "quiver of one" skis. Some additional width is OK for current skis compared to the same width a couple of years ago, for example a 90+mm ski of two years ago isn't comparable with the same width now. Manufacturers have managed to increase torsional rigidity which has improved edge hold on ice, traverses and on-piste. All of which has made them better off-piste skis as well of course.

Some of it is less to do with width and more to do with side-cut as well which along with that rigidity will determine the turn radius of the ski. My guess is that users will actually find a ski with a turn radius in excess of 20m to be no fun at all on the piste and over 25m, even 30m is just going to be miserable a lot of the time.

Well apparently 90 is the new 80 which is entirely unrelated to trying to sell more kit I'm sure.

but accomodation is our main aim now,

Anyone have an apartment or a hotel that will take us for a week from a Thursday to a Thursday in Val d Ìsere or Courchevel or pretty much anywhere in the area?Or any ideas in other resorts?

I'm not sure I'd describe either Val or Courcheval as near Geneva. For France, how about Chamonix, St Gervais, Megeve, La Clusaz or Grand Massif (Flaine, Morillon, Samoens etc). I think Grand Massif would suit you best, try Les Carroz for accommodation and the hotel Le Bois de La Char in Les Carroz is worth a look. But, just call or mail their central reservations and they'll sort it out.

ise - we'll be adding some more resorts to the maps over the next week or so but I'm keen to include as many of the smaller stations as we can, so please let me know if we miss one of your local spots.

TBH, I haven't had the heart to remove Abondance yet... I skiied there almost 20 years ago now and there was, indeed, an abundance of snow on that occasion...

Maybe we should add little tombstones for the resorts that fall victim to global warming and economic factors? :(

Let's do that, but my suggestion is that you defer that decision until it happens :D There's nothing to suggest the closure of Abondance was anything other than a business failure.

I'm also a bit confused, are you not listing Chapelle d'Abonance? Which is near Chatel and one of the rare gems of the PdS area. While it's Abondance near Thonon that's closed. Are these not entirely different places?

Abondance is a particularly good cheese actually and the local wine is good.

Good map !

Are all those Jura ones still in full operation for downhill skiing though? I'm always wonder just how far from GVA they are as well, the roads aren't too good.

Some missing as well, Moléson, La Berra, Granges-Pacot, Les Mosses, La Lecherette and some others maybe. I'll look another time, just running out the door to catch a lift and back tomorrow.....
