Mr Admin,

I'm glad to see you all back and well!

Sorry to hear about your wigglie things :( It does however raise the interesting question of whether or not we will get to see ellistine's beaver again?

As for AJ's avatar I'm glad you thought the dustbins more important :) seems only right.

And finally, call me cynical, but I think that it was Pavel who wrought havoc on you just to remove that post about ski tuning:
it's not an art at all, just a simple process to follow.
ooops, quick, make sure the aircon is working don’t want a HAO (Hot Air Overload)!!

Now as I was saying …

As most of you know I can't help asking dumb questions

Having been reading these charts for some time I feel even more foolish than usual asking this one, but can anyone explain the importance of a "Max Freezing Level"? as per the J2Ski reports, for example: http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Austria/Niederau_snow.html

So, looking at today's forecast I see that the Minimum Freezing Level is 20m (at the time of writing) - kinda got that bit but the Max is at 720m ?!?!? So what happens above that? Do we have an new and unknown state of matter, does it thaw or spin off into a whole new dimension?? Pavel – Can you advise on the best wax to use in this snow state?

Hopefully someone will come to my rescue!

Cheers

Today has been a mixed bag of sun and snow. Although it warmed up gently around midday it's now well below zero.

We've been having snow showers all day and now all the runs are skiing well :)

I await the rest of the week with interest )

It did snow over night!

Not a huge dump but a significant change in the weather and perhaps that’s the more important thing.

It’s hard to estimate the snow fall depth but probably about 40-50mm would be about right.

Also of interest is that the sky looks very much like it has more to offer which is certainly what the forecasts are saying.

More updates, as the day progresses…

Hi All,

In answer to questions about the snow / piste / base conditions I can confirm that there are increasingly large areas of grass around the resort but the main pistes are still covered.

Without doubt the base has suffered but I'm not convinced that the damage is irreparable. As Dave Mac and others have noted, Niederau is predominantly North facing and holds onto the base better than a low level resort has any real right to.

Looking at the weather today, it has been hot and sunny all day but now it’s feeling really eerie. There is a real feeling of anticipation in the atmosphere and some seriously dark clouds have started rolling in. The birds have been shouting all day and now they are silent and there’s not a breath of wind (so don’t ask me how the clouds are moving – ask Mr Admin!).

If I wake up tomorrow and it’s been snowing I don’t know if I’ll be surprised or not although it’s hard to imaging it snowing right now.

I’ll report more tomorrow.

Jan
