If you want to get in the mood for the season you could do worse than observe the locals warming themselves over hot coals in full fur ;-)

Just a very short note to say “Thanks” to all the new friends we’ve made so far this season and for the kind things said about our home. It’s what makes all the hard work so worthwhile.
Oh, and to the guest who needs to know, can I just say, I won’t need to stand at the end and hold it for you next time ;) It’s all OK now … So thanks again to everyone! Jan and Family (inc. Fred!) |

Karen,
Wave is great :) Been there loadsa times and it's a complete change from UK water centres. Primarily due to the almost total lack of whistles … Kids run, kids fall over, kids cry, kids run, kids think, kids stop running easy peasy :) There is one main pool which shallows to nothing which has waves about every 20 mins, 3 flumes, a “lengths” pool and an indoor / outdoor play pool which is kept nicely warm. One of the things which we enjoy is that the Café is poolside selling a good range of foods including a well stocked DIY salad bar as well as beers, wines and spirits. You can sit and eat and drink while watching your brood in peace, very civil! Oh and if you’re daft enough to go jumping in while half cut it’s your own fault :) The other half of the complex is underground, and it’s said to be the largest “Wellness” complex in the Tirol. It’s certainly very impressive with steam grottos, spas, saunas, and ample places to relax and unwind. It is strictly Over 18 and strictly “No clothes” so be prepared ;) If you give it a go let us know how you get on!! Jan |

Mike,
Anything I say would only serve to confuse an already complex subject  Let's just hope the shirt was able to keep up with her ;) Best wishes, Jan |

Pointlessly rude and worse, actively confusing to those trying to distinguish fact from ill-informed ramblings.

Unless the FO have got it all wrong, I submit the following to support my comment: Road Travel in Winter (1 November-15 April) New legislation, which comes into force on 1 January 2008, demands that all vehicles with up to 3.5 tonnes laden weight use winter tyres on all wheels in wintry road conditions (snow, slush, ice). Snow chains on the driving wheels will only be allowed as an alternative where the road is fully covered by snow and/or ice and the road surface will not be damaged by the chains. Chains or summer tyres will not be allowed for slush conditions. Heavy fines or temporary loss of vehicle may be imposed on those who ignore this legislation. The full statement can be read here: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travelling-and-living-overseas/travel-advice-by-country/europe/austria The same content can be seen here: http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=51959 and whilst I admit that this only anecdotal evidence, we received a letter in October informing us that Winter Tyres were compulsory from 1st November. For several days the police were stopping every car and inspecting tyres. I hope this resolves any misunderstanding. Jan |
