seams to get weather every day due to being low, north and west. From Metabief the nearest high Alps resort to me seams leysin bout 1hr drive is there any
hidden gems you can reccomend in Suisse.
Cheers Goff

Leysin, Villars etc and the Swiss end of the PdS, Verbier etc are all about the same from there I'd say.

There's some smaller pre-alpes stations, one of my local stations Moléson is fairly close along with the other Fribourg stations La Berra and Charmey all good on good snow days but all very small. Slightly cross country from Metabief though, the autoroute round Lausanne makes more sense towards those Alpes Vaudoise stations and the bas-Valais even like Ovronnaz for example.

The other direction in the Jura you have Ste Croix of course which is supposed to be quite good, never skied there but I did look at a house there once :D

we just bought some new ones, we've now both got Inooks, after having some on demo' I was happy enough to buy our own. Gave them the first outing over the weekend : http://snowslider.net/2007/12/02/praz-cornet-col-des-mosses/

I really, really rate the heel riser on these, it makes life so much easier and it's actually easier to use than the one on my skis.

Not sure how the snow is over at Metabief so far, I'm about 50km from there right now and can see over onto the Jura, looks like the snowfall last night was fairly substantial. In fact, we might go over that way on the weekend for a change.
Now ski this - truly amazing video

All very well if you're a holidaymaker doing their couple of weeks each year. If you spend in excess of a 100 days a year in the mountains you'd not last very long without some attention to hydration and nutrition.

Of course not! It is the ropeways that he is promoting. They are very modern. You get a very long pole to help you balance yourself as you walk up the ropeways.

not really very funny. If you were a lift operator and going to the conference of your industry you'd be going the to the "International Ropeways" conference, held last year in Austria as it happens. If you were buying a new lift you might buy it from Leitner Ropeways, that's the bit of the business that makes ski lifts. So the original poster uses the correct term even if it's not what the general public use it's the term used by professionals and industry insiders.

Where I live, Whitby, N Yorks, nothing happens quickly, the moulds I had made for my orthopaedic footbeds had to be sent away to be fabricated, hence the wait.

I thought you were going to say that, it's not unheard of. The best kit will take various images and measurements ("g-code") of the foot which can be hooked straight into CNC gear. What some outfits do is hold only measuring gear and send the data to another location that has the CNC kit, it's clearly cheaper. The trouble is that it's slower and can lack the hand finishing and local input you get from an integrated setup. The local guy here modifies the CNC "g-code" for me for some requirements I have based on my usage.

TC wrote:Glucose powder with added vitamin C, which you can get a big pack from BOOTS for about £1.50, is good just added to water or mixed with a squash as well.

A client of mine who is leturing in sports science recommended to me, infact the vitamin C element was more important than the glucose but for sports that gave a good combination.

So probably comes back to the fruit bars with Vit C in!

there's two different things though, hydration and nutrition, in fact really re-hydration when sweating and for that you really need electrolytes in addition to Vit C etc.
